The Château de Dampierre of Dampierre !!!

This one was a while back in my road warrior tours of the east of my belle France I, again, found me older paper pictures that should be in my blog, glad to have found them, I have been all over France, but sometimes just touch base ,go on the run and lucky to be able to come back to many, but still work to do. Let me tell you about the Château de Dampierre of Dampierre !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The village of Dampierre is located in the department of Aube 10 in the Grand Est region of my belle France. It retains the traces of a prestigious past, those of a capital, a barony and then a marquisate.

The château de Dampierre retains a picturesque châtelet of the end of the Middle Ages, of quadrangular plan, confined with round turrets pierced with low gunboats. As for the main building, isolated since the disappearance of the outbuildings that framed the court of honor, Inside, the vestibule overlooks a large stone staircase whose first level corresponds to a superelevated parts due to the vaults of the old kitchen in half basement located below. Its remarkable carved stone ramp preceded by a long driveway, a grid and a loup jump, the main building was to be framed on the pavilions courtyard with rounded corners, Monumental door with 15C turrets ,rest of the fortified castle from the 17C, The château de Dampierre ,the Court of Honor is accessed by a 15C porch with four round corner towers, which protects access by the old Pont-Levis . The castle adjoining two floors with a length of 40 meters and a width of 28 meters has eleven windows, three of which are in the central projection. The three windows of the attic roof are decorated with vases decorated with flames. Since 2021, it has been the property of Antoni Calmon who wishes to return its luster of yesteryear to it.

A bit of history tell us that the first known was Thibaut de Moëlain, Lord of Dampierre and Moëslains in the 11C. Guillaume III, was lord of Dampierre from 1231 to 1251. Under the name of Willem II of Flanders, he was count of Flanders, associated with his mother from 1247 to 1251. He was the son of Marguerite II, countess of Flanders and Hainaut, and Guillaume II of Dampierre. Guy de Dampierre was proclaimed count of Flanders in 1253 by his mother, and became an effective count on the death of the latter in 1280. He was also count of Namur from 1264 to 1305. He was the second son of Guillaume II of Dampierre and Marguerite de Constantinople. The Maison de Dampierre’s house was a large family in the Middle Ages, from Dampierre (Aube 10). Its different branches developed from the 11C in Champagne, Artois, and in several provinces of current Belgium. All the branches of this family died before the end of the Middle Ages. In 1645, the barony of Dampierre was erected as a marquisate. In 1938, the Baron and the Baroness of Aligny, representatives of a younger branch of the Picot, buys this family home until sold as above.
