This is Artouste !!!

This is probably one of my wildest road warrior trip going over the high mountain peaks in the Pyrénées chain, and the most exciting. This, was going over the col du Pourtalet (see post) and seeing the magnificent dam and lake of Artouste, I found me an older picture that made me write this post for you and me, It brings back wonderful family memories going over these mountains over the years first with wife , then boys and then parents and family! Therefore, let me tell you about this is Artouste !! Hope you enjoy it as I The village of Artouste is a Pyrenean winter sports resort of altitude located in the department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques 64 in old Béarn, and in the upper Valley of Ossau, between the valleys of the Gaves du Brousset and Soussouéou. in the town of Laruns. This is all along the road D934 awesome !! All in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of my belle France. The village is 55 km from Pau (our base), 184 km from Saint Jean de Luz, 122 km from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port,(going), and 176 km from Zaragoza (Spain). The bit of history I like tell us that at the end of the 19C, Father Ludovic Gaurier,a mountain climber, discovered Lake Artouste. This discovery quickly attracts the Hydroelectric Society of the Midi which wishes to make this lake a hydroelectric power station. This is a natural lake, of ice origin, from the Ossau valley. It is located at 1,997 meters altitude. It is bordered on three of its four sides by the Pyrenees National Park. This lake is also connected to the Migouelou lake by a gallery of 800 meters currently disused under the Col d’Artouste via Carnau lakes, and in winter Lake Artouste is also fueled by three water intakes located in the Val d’Azun at the foot of the Balaïtous whose water would normally flow to the Gave de Pau. The dam also feeds an underground power station located under the fall of 73 meters with an installed power 2,634 kVA. The water is then transported by a gallery along the railroad , to the Artouste factory, operated by the Shem. (Hydroelectric company of the Midi) Another priority adduction brings water via a gallery and forced driving at the Pont de Camps factory located upstream of Lake Fabrèges, The natural lake with an initial altitude 1 968 meters was enhanced by a Bush weight in slightly curved concrete 27 meters high commissioned in 1929 to power the hydroelectric factory of Artouste The dam was enhanced a second time in 1962 to increase storage and therefore the productible, and feeds the fall of the Pont de Camp located upstream of Lake Fabrèges. Artouste D934 dam of artouste on pyrennees aug16 n 1966, the town of Laruns undertook the creation of a track ski resort in Artouste. The station, initially called Artouste-La Sagette, was inaugurated on December 15, 1967 in 1984, the village of Fabrèges was created by the homonymous lake, 1250 meters altitude. Located at the foot of the cable car leading to the station, it consists of four residences welcoming tourists throughout the year. Thus, the station became, in June 2019, the first Pyrenees station to offer the Mountain Kart activity, The Artouste ski resort is located on the Pic de la Sagette massif, and connected to Lake Fabrèges by a cable car ( 1250 m at 1,950 m altitude). It is necessary to borrow another ascent in order to access the snow park at 2100 m, top of the station. The station offers an exceptional panorama of the Pyrenees, within the Ossau valley; Particularly on the Pic du Midi d’Ossau, the Pic de Ger, Le Pic Etibère and the lakes of Ayous, Bious-Artigues and Fabrèges. The station is organized in four sectors, including three on the slopes of the Soussouéou valley: the Sagette sector is a sector dedicated to beginners and playful practices The Arracou sector is adjoining the Sagette sector, The Séous sector is the southernmost of the station, this is a confirmed and intermediate sector, the Soussouéou sector is located downstream from the Arracou and Séous sectors. As its name suggests, it is located near the Gave de Soussouéou at 1350 m above sea level, at the edge of which it is connected to the rest of the station by the l’Ours (bears) chairlifts ,ending in the col de l’Ours (bears peak), and Grand Coq (large rooster) , ending in the Arracou sector,. The station also operates the small Artouste train during the summer period. The station is famous for its train circulating at almost 2000 meters above sea level, it is the second highest tourist railway line in France and transports on10 km of tracks, You can access the station by road, via the departmental road 431 and the departmental road 934 which links Laruns to the Col du Pourtalet . It is served by line 525 of the interurban transport network of the Nouvelle Aquitaine region which, with correspondence, links to the Pau train station, Bus and train for reference , never taken them, The official Artouste ski station and train : https://artouste.fr/ete/en/ The local Valley of Ossau tourist office on the train: https://en.valleedossau.com/the-artouste-train.html?origine=switchLangue The local Valley of Ossau tourist office on the ski station: https://www.valleedossau.com/station-artouste.html The private site on the lakes of the Pyrénées and lake Artouste: https://www.lacsdespyrenees.com/lac-23-Lac%20d’Artouste.html There you go folks, a wonderful mountain ride , do go ahead make the run, get the thrill of high mountain driving in pure air with breath taking views, sublime.
