The Canal du Midi in Toulouse, part I !!!

You need to walk in any City but in the pink city of Toulouse is a must, So much beauties to see and enjoy it is amazing, We always walk a lot but that is usual for us on our trips. We go by car for convenience but once in town we let our feet do the walking and we love it. I have written a previous post on our street walking in the city, but left out some sights that needs to be in my blog, Therefore, this is my rendition of  the Canal du Midi in Toulouse, part I !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I. The first thing you ought to come is the La Maison de la Violette located right on the canal du midi by 3 Blvd Bonrepos,facing the train station gare de Matabiau, The range of products is amazing on what can you do with the violets. In 1998, the idea of an unusual public space was born, to highlight the world of the Toulouse Violet and present their products. In July 2020, the Maison de la Violette barge was born, moored on the Canal du Midi , near the City center of Toulouse.The Maison de la Violette has cultivated the flower and innovated in its greenhouse for nearly 10 years. toulouse-maison-de-la-violette-resto-on-canal-du-midi A legend tells that a French soldier, left behind after one of Napoleon’s military campaigns, returned from Italy (region of Parma) with a Violet, to offer it to his beloved as forgiveness for his absence. The Toulouse market gardeners of the time were interested in this small fragrant double flower, which is unique in that it blooms only with the arrival of the cold in winter (December to March). This period of bloom was unique in France at the time and flowers are rare in winter. An important culture developed in northern Toulouse (Lalande – Aucamville – Launaguet – St Jory), At that time, 600 families cultivated the Violet and other varieties, producing 30 tons of cut flowers per year, mainly to make delicate round bouquets.  A few decades later, the Violet would be exported to the farthest corners of Europe throughout the winter and Toulouse has become famous for this unique know-how. The Violet is at its peak in the month of February , a good time , as it is the month of lovers. A symbol of modesty and sincere and discreet love, the Violet is very sought after in small bouquets to offer a lady. toulouse-garonne-river-la-violette-boat-jan20 A permanent exhibition introduces the history and cultivation of the plant and a tasting of products is offered all year round. On the upper deck, the terrace houses a tea room in fine weather and a greenhouse of Violets de Toulouse for sale in winter. This is in addition to the wonderful walk along the quays and the Garonne river and or Canal du Midi, and see the quant boats. Just a sublime sight and we love it. Here you have a Bistronomic cuisine. The boat is fully glazed to make the most of the landscape.  Departure: 4 boulevard Bonrepos across Matabiau train station. My background comes all the way from Candelaria and Pajara in Tenerife, Spain where my grandparents came from ;not knowing each other then, to Punta Brava, west of Havana, Cuba. There , my parents born in Cuba met and later on I was born there too. 100% guanche (annexed Tenerife to Spain on April 10 ,1496). I left Cuba as many have to Madrid, Spain where I lived for 4 years. Then, move to Perth Amboy ,New Jersey USA (living there 13 yrs) ; where I completed high school, became a US Citizen, learned to drive a car, and learned English. Afterward, went to the university in Florida, ERAU, and upon graduation decided to moved there to Ormond by the Sea, near Daytona Beach, finally moving North Miami, then Hialeah, then another moved to Silver Lakes division in Miramar, Broward county, Florida; in Florida I lived a total of 18 years. Finally , moved to France in 2003 ,Versailles call me for its royalty, and working in Paris was great. It was time to seek frontiers again and moved to Brech near Auray, Morbihan in Brittany , and later move to not too far Pluvigner. Total so far in France has been 20 years, and counting. Moving average a home every 5.5 years hopefully this will be my last. Cheers All rights reserved.
