I have found older paper pictures new to my blog from the wonderful Château of Fontainebleau!, I like to include these in my blog even if quality will not be tops. We were always on the run in Fontainebleau and many times as friend of the castle just came in and out took quick pictures of the rooms and went out the garden back in my walking warrior mode !, My nostalgic memorable Fontainebleau is worth the visit indeed ! Therefore, let me tell you a bit about the Galerie des Assiettes of the Château de Fontainebleau !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The galerie des Assiettes or Plate Gallery, aka galerie des Fresques or gallery of frescoes has a ceiling decorated with 21 paintings from Atelier d’Ambroise Dubois made around 1600,These, representing the deities Mythology and hunter children, were initially made of oil on plaster and were part of the decor of the vault of the Diane gallery. Posed under Napoleon I and transposed on canvas, they were brought to this gallery which thus took the name of “Galerie des Fresques”. They were re-decorated circa 1840 under Louis-Philippe I, with 17C ceiling paintings and 128 plates in Sevres porcelain fitted into the woodwork, at the Château de Fontainebleau. The castle is one of the largest French royal palaces and was begun in the early 16C for François I.

The Galerie des Assiettes or Gallery of Plates was created during the reign of Louis-Philippe I in 1840, on the site of a former terrace. A tribute to the artistic and historical heritage of the château, in neo-Renaissance and lambris woodwork in which are installed near 128 sèvres porcelain plates from the historic service of Fontainebleau illustrating the history of the castle (François I receiving Benvenuto Cellini in 1540 by Jean- Charles Develly, birth of Philippe le Bel at the castle), the forest, the castle at different times, other royal residences or places visited by Louis-Philippe during his first exile (North America with the Niagara Falls , England, Sicily). The cabinet with its Sèvres porcelain plate box illustrates the marriage of Duke Ferdinand-Philippe d’Orléans with Hélène de Mecklembourg-Schwerin (welcome from the princess, civil marriage in the ballroom, Catholic wedding in the chapel de la Trinité, Protestant marriage in the column room), painted by Jean-Charles Develly.
