The Church Notre Dame of Tyn of Prague !!!

I came upon a picture that had not identified until now, It has been a great feeling of wonderful proportions. Brings back nice memories of my trips to Prague especially. Seeing these beauties and able to share them with the world is a great satisfaction to me, Therefore, let me tell you about the Church Notre Dame of Tyn of Prague !!! Hope you enjoy it as I.

The Church Notre-Dame of Týn is located at Staroměstské náměstí, Praha 1 – Staré Město in Prague, It is dominating the Old Town square, facing the Týn school, with bell towers 80 meters high. The Gothic church was one of the symbols of the struggle between Catholics and Protestants in Bohemia.

A bit of history I like tell us that this church replaced an ancient Romanesque church of the 4C, present until 1256, this new Gothic church was built from 1380 under the reign of Venceslas in Luxembourg. Jean RokyCany is elected archbishop of the Hussite church in 1427, The roof was completed in 1450, during the reign of Georges of Bohemia, and the bell towers in 1511. The pediment dates from 1436. On the gable is represented a gold chalice , a Hussite symbol that made this church an important place for religion during the Hussite movement. In 1626, after the Battle of the White Mountain, the church passed into the Catholic fold, sculptures as well as the chalice were removed, replaced by a representation of the Virgin. In 1626, lightning strongly damaged the vault, which was replaced, but in the Baroque style. This style now fully marks the interior of the church.

It owes its name to a former fortified site called Týnský Dvůr or Ungelt located nearby and which welcomed foreign merchants. Historically, “týn” designated a fortified place in the Middle Ages. We find this name in that of the village of Týn Nad Vltavou. The Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe, who was at the service of the Emperor Rudolph II, was buried in the church in 1601. Certain paintings of the altar are the work of Karel Škreta. A legend wants one of the windows of the German -speaking Czech writer Franz Kafka gave directly to the church choir.
