This is another dandy in my travels, well done and rebuilt very nice after all. I have been by here several times, and even on business trips. The city of Prague has kept its old world charm ,it has been kept very nicely with a quant squares and narrow streets especially in Praha 1 district. I like to tell you more on the curiosities of Prague, part IV !! Hope you enjoy it as I.
First, I came upon the former U Hybernů Palace ,called so after the Irish Franciscans who were invited to Prague by Emperor Ferdinand II. The Franciscans were called hyberni, after the Latin name for Ireland (Hybernia). In 1637 they started building a new monastery and the Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary it was one of the most important churches of the early Baroque in Prague. In 1786, the monastery was dissolved, the entire property of the order was confiscated and redistributed to the so-called “religious fund”. For a short period of time, the church was used for military masses, but the monastery was eventually taken over by wealthy businessmen who encouraged the creation of a new theatre. In 1806 the church was deconsecrated and the buildings of the monastery and the church were converted into a customs office ,and received their typical Empire appearance. The façade is a free replica of the Gentz façade of the Berlin Mint. The majestic palace is one of the most important manifestations of the Empire style in Prague Since then, the building has been used by various state and private institutions Between 1938 – 1949 the church was built into an exhibition hall and served this purpose until 1991, when it was closed as a dilapidated building. It was last rebuilt in 2005 – 2006. This time it was mainly related to the internal layout, which needed to be transformed into a modern theatre hall as we see today the Hybernia Theater.

The Church of Saint Clement (Klimenta) is likely that the church is the oldest known shrine on the right bank of the Vltava river in Prague and that this is probably one of the oldest churches of the Climation initiation in Bohemia, The Cuminant Constantine and Methodius, who came to Moravia in 863, brought the remains they believed that they belonged to the former Bishop of Clement of Roman, who was once drowned in the Crimea as a martyr for his faith , The church ,the origin of which needs to be from the beginning of the 11C. When the Dominicans came to the climate in 1226, they were given to them in the use of the Christian church, which has been here for at least two hundred years. At that time it became the Church of the Reformed Prague Corps, and later the Church of the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren, established in 1918 by the merger of Czech Evangelicals of the Helvet and Augsburg Concession., The church has undergone several reconstructions, with the oldest visible and accessible part of the church is its presbytery, dating from the 14C. On the south side of the church was discovered a Gothic sedile with profiled lining and Renaissance fresco ; it turned out that there was another painting under it. It was decided to remove the fresco. Below it appeared a Gothic painting depicting three angels carrying draperia. The valuable discovery was the remnants of murals with the motifs of the passion scenes ,Jesus’ entrance to Jerusalem, his crucifixion and resurrection. But only the torsion of paintings have been preserved. They are dated to the period of top development of Gothic painting in Bohemia, ie to 1800.
The New Mill Water Tower was built in the Baroque style in 1658 on what remained of the original Renaissance tower, destroyed by a flood in 1655. It supplied water to the lower New Town of Prague and served its original purpose until 1877.The tower is deemed to be Prague’s earliest lookout tower, thanks to the observation room on the top floor. The Tower has undergone a complete renovation, and now houses an exhibition about Prague’s fires in the past and a history of Prague’s fire-fighters.
