Again on my road warrior mode in my belle France. I have passed by many many small towns that seems obscure at first but pack a wonderful history and heritage of their own. Therefore, let me use this post to tell you about the Church Notre Dame of Le Pian sur Garonne ! Hope you enjoy the post as I
The town of Le Pian sur Garonne is located in the Gironde department 33, in the Nouvelle Aquitaine region. The town part of the Entre-deux-Mers area, located on the right bank of the Garonne river, and 47 km from Bordeaux,6 km from Langon, and with only about 910 inhabitants, I passed by here on my road warrior trails coming into City center on the D672 to connect with the D1113 towards Saint Macaire and onwards to Langon, then A62 and onwards to Bordeaux !
The Church Notre Dame ,right on road D672 in town was built in 1900 in the neo-Roman style, It has an imposing bell tower overlooking the Garonne valley. The altar of the 17C with wood and gilding. At the same time, a new presbytery and a new school house are built, thanks in particular to the allowances paid by the town of Saint Macaire. First church on the edge of the Garonne river close to a leprosery. Old statues, and a golden altarpiece of the 18C.

Other things to see in Le Pian sur Garonne are : the Domaine de Bellecroix and its 17C castle, located along the departmental road D1113 The castle was built more precisely in 1670 as attests to an inscription on a side wall, Also, the Château la Piolette Viticole of 18 hectares in AOC Bordeaux You can have lunch on the grass thanks to the picnic basket, and you can stay on three lodgings (labeled Gîtes de France) at your disposal as well as a parking area for motorhomes.
A bit of history I like tell us that Pian entered the written story in 1165 with the arrival of the Benedictines of Saint Macaire who came to celebrate Mass in the older parish Church Notre Dame during the French revolution, the parish of Notre-Dame du Pian forms the town Le Pian . On January 27, 1956, the town became Le Pian-sur-Garonne. The original town was located on the lower part of the town, along the national road, near the Garonne; its church, housed the “clumsiness” which received people with the pian (skin disease close to leprosy) at that time, the territory extended to the Place des Tilleuls of Saint Macaire. The current City/town hall and church were built at the end of the 19C, after the annexation by this city of the most crowded adjoining part.
