I will be brief just for the memories, there is a lot more on them there and here, These are several left out from my blog for some unexplained reason, Catching up !!!

The Church Saint Louis of the French (Piazza di S. Luigi de’ Francesi, ) has been the French national church in Rome since 1589. It is located between the Pantheon and Piazza Navona, its style is essentially Baroque. It is famous for preserving three canvases by Caravaggio dedicated to Saint Matthew and for the frescoes of Dominicino, completed in 1589. It was financed among others by the Valois kings of France, Catherine de Medici, or the Duke of Lorraine. It was built to be a parish for the French residents of the city. From an artistic point of view, the church is an exaltation of France through the representation of its saints and its greatest historical figures. On the facade, there are statues of Charlemagne, St Louis, Sainte-Clotilde, and Sainte Jeanne de Valois. In addition, the salamander of François I is present at the ends.

The interior of the Church Saint Louis of the French is composed of a nave, two sideways and side chapels, largely decorated in the Baroque style, and shows a profusion of marble, gilding and stucco. The Dominican painted in the second chapel of the right nave one of the masterpieces, frescoes telling the legend of Saint Cécile. Other artists worked with the decoration of Saint-Louis-des-Français, However, the most famous of the church are the cycle of painting adorning the fifth chapel on the left, the Contarelli Chapel. This set, in Baroque done from 1599 to 1602 on an order by Cardinal Matthieu Contarelli, is devoted to the life of Saint Matthew. Three paintings illustrate this cycle: on the left the vocation of Saint Matthew, opposite Saint Matthew and the Angel which constitutes the altarpiece, and on the right the martyrdom of Saint Matthew, A fresco on the ceiling of this chapel represents another episode of the life of Saint Matthew, the resurrection of the daughter of a king;

The Crucifix Chapel is dedicated to the victims of terrorism. We can currently see the portrait of Father Jacques Hamel, assassinated on July 26, 2016, in Saint-Étienne-du-Rouvray, near Rouen. The Orgue Merklin of 1881, placed in a anterior baroque buffet, is one of the few instruments of Joseph Merklin fully preserved.
