Curiosities of Richelieu, part II !!!

Ok so this is Richelieu located in the Indre et Loire dept 37 of the Centre Val de Loire region of my belle France, I finally came to Richelieu, the town of the Cardinal of France! This is a small but amazing town that needs to be seen. Let me tell you a bit more on older new pictures to my blog, These are the curiosities of Richelieu, part II !!! Hope you enjoy it as I.  

The town of Richelieu borders on the Touraine, Anjou and Poitou,old provinces of France, and today, the city borders the department of Vienne no 86 and the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. The new town built between 1631 and 1642, bears the mark of its founder and sponsor, Cardinal Richelieu, and is a remarkable testimony to 17C town planning. It is based on a checkerboard plan on the model of Roman towns. or medieval bastides. It revolves around two squares, Place Royale and Place du Cardinal, and is surrounded by ramparts and monumental gates.

The 12 meters wide, Grande Rue, median artery, bordered by 14 mansions, on both sides, in front of all initially being built from a standard plan, is oriented north-south with, at each end, a square.The 28 mansions were reserved for the nobles and friends of Cardinal Richelieu , It was he who gave them land in order to build their residences. At No 28 Grande Rue there is an interpretation center retracing, in video format, the history of the Cardinal de Richelieu, of the city as well as a reconstruction of the castle. The building rises on two floors. During the summer season, the three rooms on the second floor are reserved for artistic and historical exhibitions. In addition, this mansion is the only one that has not experienced any changes since its construction.

You enjoy the walks sites and eateries in the southern square or Place du Cardinal (today call Place du Marché or market square), there are currently the ND Church and the Halles (market) vis-à-vis, as well as the Hôtel de Ville or city/town hall, a former courthouse.(see posts) See the statue of Cardinal Richelieu and my boys !!!

Some of the activities to enjoy at Richelieu timing them right are in May ; the Antiquity Fair, From July 1 and 2: 20th artistic show, under the Halles, In July the Cape and epé festival done every two years next one will be July 20-21 2024, There is a Richelieu music festival (9 concerts of world music), in the dome of the park from July 27 to August 6 2024, and from September 9 and 10: The 1st Ceramics Day, Place du Cardinal. There you go folks, a dandy beautiful place to see architecture and history of France before you intact for the most part since the 17C! Richelieu is nice, the Cardinal at least here did a good job!  Again, hope you enjoy the curiosities of Richelieu, part II as I

There , my parents born in Cuba met and later on I was born there too. 100% guanche (annexed Tenerife to Spain on April 10 ,1496). I left Cuba as many have to Madrid, Spain where I lived for 4 years. Then, move to Perth Amboy ,New Jersey USA (living there 13 yrs) ; where I completed high school, became a US Citizen, learned to drive a car, and learned English. Afterward, went to the university in Florida, ERAU, and upon graduation decided to moved there to Ormond by the Sea, near Daytona Beach, finally moving North Miami, then Hialeah, then another moved to Silver Lakes division in Miramar, Broward county, Florida; in Florida I lived a total of 18 years. Finally , moved to France in 2003 ,Versailles call me for its royalty, and working in Paris was great. It was time to seek frontiers again and moved to Brech near Auray, Morbihan in Brittany , and later move to not too far Pluvigner. Total so far in France has been 20 years, and counting. Moving average a home every 5.5 years hopefully this will be my last. Cheers All rights reserved.
