And here I am back in the East; a wonderful region which have been here a lot, and family ties of old, I found some older pictures and personal that feel should be in my blog ; after all, its my life’s history, you know it, The wonderful City of Epernay in the dept 51 of the Marne now in the region of Grand Est or old Champagne-Ardennes . Let me tell you a bit more on curiosities of Epernay !!! Hope you enjoy it as I
While in Epernay, is nice to see the Monument to the Martyrs of the Resistance , erected in Place de la République at the initiative of Pierre Servagnat, and the Committee of the Friendship of Former FFI of the Épernay region to honor the memory of their 176 comrades who died for France by resisting the occupiers, It was inaugurated on May 7, 1950 in the presence of the President of the Republic, Vincent Auriol and Pierre Schneiter, President of the Chamber of Deputies. On April 23, 1955, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration camps, a remembrance urn containing a bit of earth brought back from Buchenwald by former Marne deportees, was sealed at the base of the monument. Nice. Back belltower of Notre Dame Church.

Epernay grew in the second half of the 19C, thanks to the champagne wine trade accelerated thanks to the passage of the railway, favorable to the development of the town. My memories of road warrior driving these wonderful small countrytown roads are wonderful and nice memories forever, The historic Nationale 3 or N3 taken many times even from Paris to Meaux and onwards to Epernay, The road now enters the Marne department with a somewhat strange logic of the massive downgrading of national roads in 2004 means that we move here from the D1003 to the D3. This road was from after 1744, exiting in a straight line due east via rue du Commerce (current avenue de Champagne since February 1925). By Place Louis-Philippe ( now Place de la République since 1881), which elegantly begins the Faubourg de la Folie on the historic old N3, dates from 1841.
Things to see here other than the bubbly , you need to walk the Avenue de Champagne with many 19C houses from renaissance to classical styles. The Orangerie, gardens part of the estate of the house of Moêt & Chandon, its not open for visitors but you can see it from avenue de Champagne. Also, the Porte Saint Martin, one of the oldest monument here remains of the old church of Notre Dame, at Place Hugues Plomb. Visit the Church of Notre Dame, 16C but built in 12C architecture with great decorations from the 15C and 16C, at Place Méndes France.
