And bringing you back again to eternal Rome, and Italy. We had great weather when visiting with the family and good memories of the Castle museum of Sant Angelo. This are older new pictures to the blog and just needed to have them here, Therefore, here is my sequel to the castle-museum Sant Angelo of Rome ,part II !!! Hope you enjoy it as I.

The castle grounds were done in 135 and completed in 139, the ashes of emperors Hadrian and Augustus are in its stones, and it was done as a mausoleum to house the ones from Hadrian (emperor born in what is today Spain). The appearances of an angel had a lot to do with the name of the castle. It passes by the Aurelian walls right into the Vatican area, with a great moat area now with benches and shade trees, up above by the walls there is a semicircular pathway of beautiful shaded trees and benches with colorful stands selling gelato, and even hot dogs with souvenirs stand with great prices always negotiated down. We purchase t-shirts, scarfs, belts, and caps all starting much higher but always reduce prices at the end!

The Castel Sant’Angelo is divided into five floors which can be accessed by going up a spiral-shaped ramp which leads first to the burial chamber and then to the cells where certain historical figures were locked up. By climbing to the top of the castle, you can visit various residences which served for a time as the Pope’s residence, decorated with Renaissance frescoes still perfectly preserved, and discover vast collections of weapons. On the top floor there is a large terrace from which you can take magnificent photos of the city from above. Restored at the beginning of the 20C, the Castel Sant’Angelo is a museum since 1925, where it houses a collection of paintings and armor.

In 1870, the Vatican donated the Castel Sant’Angelo or Castle of the Holy Angel to the Italian army, which transformed it into a museum to open it to the public, since 1925 . You will find consecutively on the floors: Ground floor: square with exhibition on medieval weapons, 1st floor: the mausoleum with the original tombs of Emperor Hadrian, which were later unfortunately looted, 2nd floor: the prison, 3rd floor: the museum with furniture, ceramics, weapons and paintings from the Renaissance., 4th floor: the apartments to which the Pope could retreat during an attack on the Vatican. 5th floor: the roof terrace with the bronze statue of the Archangel Michael and a splendid view of Rome
The Castel Sant’Angelo is connected to the other side of the Tiber river bank thanks to the Ponte Sant’Angelo, that is to say the Bridge of the Angels. On either side of the bridge, there are five angels, created by students of Bernini. The angels carry objects related to Jesus’ way of the cross.
