I look again into my vault and found me a loose picture elsewhere that should have a post of its own for the memories of always. One of my memorable road warrior experiences in the Philippines, I made several trips to the country over the last few years, 6 times to be exact from 2014 to November 2018, all memorable with many friends still in touch, see my many posts on the country in my blog. However, need to tell you more about Tagaytay and the market !! Hope you enjoy it as I.
I reached the town by the Tagaytay–Talisay Road, a 12-km (7.5 mi) road from Lemery (see post)–Agoncillo–Laurel–Talisay Road to Tagaytay Rotunda., The City of Tagaytay, is in the province of Cavite ,the Philippines. The city lies along Tagaytay Ridge, a ridge stretching about 32 kilometres (20 mi) from Mount Batulao in the west to People’s Park in the Sky in the east with elevations averaging about 610 metres (2,000 ft) above sea level.Mount Sungay, in Tagaytay, is the highest point of the province of Cavite at 709 metres (2,326 ft).
It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country due to its exceptional climate, its landscape, and the coolness provided by its high altitude. Tagaytay overlooks Taal Lake in Batangas and provides one of the Philippines’ iconic views. The view of the Taal Volcano in the middle of the lake, is visible from several vantage points in the city. The City is relatively close to the capital city of Manila, only 59 km (37 mi) away via Aguinaldo Highway, providing an easy escape for the locals from the heat of the huge metropolis. I am told that among the most visited sites in Tagaytay are the Sky Ranch, Ayala Malls Serin, Robinsons Summit Ridge, Picnic Grove Complex, People’s Park in the Sky, Halfway Zoo, The fruit stands are across the Tagaytay City Market (see pic) where the fresh tilapia from Taal Lake are marketed. The city’s proximity to Metro Manila is attributed to the tourism , and the city receives a seasonal influx of tourists during Christmas season and Holy Week, as well as a popular pilgrimage destination with churches, shrines, and retreat houses.

A bit of history I like tell us that when the Philippine Revolution (1896) broke up, Tagaytay became a place of refuge and hideaway for revolutionaries of the nearby provinces of Batangas and Laguna and other neighboring towns. The place, with its wide expanse of forests, made it a perfect sanctuary and pursuit place for the Katipuneros. Because of that, the Katipuneros used to call the place as “Mananagaytay” which means traversing the ridges of Tagaytay. In 1896, the fortress of Tagaytay served as home among revolutionaries as well as those living in nearby provinces. 1937 ,the construction ensues on Tagaytay Hill. Prisoners from Cavite build the long road stretching from Silang to the hill. It is a continuation of Aguinaldo Road, named after the first President of the Republic of the Philippines, Emilio Aguinaldo. In 1938. Tagaytay became a privileged city with the signing of Act no. 338 of the Commonwealth of the President of the Philippines Manuel L. Quezon on January 21, 1938, In 1945, during WWII, Tagaytay has gained even more popularity with the combat jump of the 511th Parachute Infantry Regiment by the 11th Airborne Division of Lt. Gen. Robert L. Eichelberger.(USA), 1979. Former first lady Imelda Marcos brought a significant change to the city’s landscape. Mount Sungay was leveled about halfway to its former preeminence to build the “Palace in the Sky,” a mansion originally planned as a residence for former California governor Ronald Reagan (later Pres USA), which he never came. The half-finished palace became a public garden in the sky after the People’s Revolution, which overthrew the government of Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos.
