I like to tell you about this church with its own post, It is the quant town of Ettelbruck in the country of Luxembourg. We have come several times over the years and is our favorite little country. It is so nice quant, clean, efficient, and just gave a good feeling from the first visit in 1991 and it has remained strong ever since. I have many nice memories of my dear late wife Martine here. Do read/see my other posts on the City and country in my post, One of the nice monuments here is the Church Saint Sebastian and here is my take on it. Hope you enjoy the post as I.
We have here the Church Saint Sebastian which has a decagonal structure ,and contains tombstones dating as far back to the 15C.

The first stone of the current neo-Romanesque parish Church Saint Sebastian was laid in 1841. Although completed in 1851, the church was not consecrated until 1864. The interior houses several precious objects of art: a oil painting by Joseph Probst entitled « The Burning Bush », an African Shona sculpture, a beautiful choir organ of eight and a half stops and several remarkable stained glass windows representing, among other things, a panorama of Ettelbruck.

The parish church of Ettelbruck honors the Benedictine spirit of Saint Sebastian, constructed in the order of Saints Peter and Paul. Functioning as a Deanery Center, one of the six administrative facilities under the command of the Archbishop. The exterior reflects the Dutch-influenced baroque design, with gothic elements on the inside. Crossing a ribbed vault decorated with Flemish frescoes, the way leads to the church’s high altar, a masterful addition of the 19C. Behind the altar lies the church’s pipe organ, produced by the only organ production company in the grand duchy since a century ago. Finally 4 round side chapels were added to support the church.

Ettelbruck’s name dates back to the invasion of the Low Countries by Attila the Hun in 451 . Attila and his army built a bridge , called a bruck and crossed the Alzette river near Schieren. The local language variant of Attila’s name was “Ettel” so the bridge became known as the location of Attila’s bridge, or Ettelbruck. The town lies at the exact spot where three rivers meet: the Sauer, the Wark and the Alzette. This location has historically made Ettelbruck a major transportation hub for the country second only to Luxembourg City,
A bit of history I like tell us that US forces first liberated the town on September 11, 1944, but Germany retook the town back on December 16, 1944 during the Battle of the Bulge. US General George S. Patton on Christmas Day, December 25, 1944 led US troops in the final liberation of Ettelbruck from Nazi occupation. One of Ettelbruck’s main squares is named Patton Square, and is located at the exact spot where the Nazis offensive into Luxembourg’s Alzette Valley was stopped, ending its attempt to reoccupy the country as a whole.
