We saw plenty on our latest road warrior trip and now coming back is always the saddest part, The Nord dept 59 is home to family and even if now less in numbers the ties are strong, Coming back we took the expressway paying tolls again for a quicker trip of less than 8 hours, Many memories now again behind us, still missing my parents Elio and Gladys, and dear Martine,,,always with us in these trips, I gather strength to go back on this route and glad I did it Now we were on the N175 road coming home and passed by a an area we have used as a rest area or to eat, and I did again, We stopped in Avranches and had our meal as we were going to arrive late at home, memories forever !!, Therefore, let me tell you about Avranches and the Buffalo Grill ! Hope you enjoy the post as I.
I have passed many many times ,even at nights, spend time and was our rest stop coming from Versailles to the Morbihan even before moving to the latter. This is Avranches, in the Manche department 50 of the Normandy region of my belle France By the A84 (extended beyond Caen to Paris by the A13), which is bisected at Avranches to form the N175 ring road;my corridor for many years, By train at the Gare d’Avranches train station, which serves Caen via Lison and Rennes via Dol.
The Buffalo Grill Restaurant is at the Rond Point de Montcréton, We stopped again to eat and had my usual big juicy burger with bacon, fries, and the local Le Brécéen cider brut, banana-choco cup, and my boys had steaks and profiterolles, nice taken time here and seeing the other new buildings around, a memorable spot of many days and nights of travel, Memories forever !

Let me take this time to expand on Avranches and jotted down for future visits. The town of Avranches with its keep, ramparts, museums, the civil heritage is important. Its historically rich past makes it a captivating and inexhaustible place of discovery I admit passed by it many times and need to see it more, Its just a nice stop on my road warrior ways ! .Avranches is a former bishopric characterized by a remarkable religious heritage. The town is full of charming streets, tree-lined alleys, gardens nestled in the hollow of the ramparts and squares of character. The urban wall, reinforced by a braie, also supported by a few circular towers, and a moat, was raised, as soon as the English and Bretons retreated, in the 13C and 14C enclosing the medieval town around the Saint-André Cathedral. Double enclosure with moats and ditches. We can still follow its route: Place d’Estouteville, Boulevard des Abrincates, garden of the bishopric. The walled city surrounded the main monuments of the city including: the cathedral, the episcopal palace and the keep.
Some of the things that can be seen here and as said, I myself need to spend more time in Avranches, These are : The dungeon of Avranches was probably built at the beginning of the 11C during the installation of a first count: Robert d’Avranches, illegitimate son of Duke Richard I of Normandy. Raised on the foundations of a Roman castellum, The Grand Deanery of Avranches with elements of the 12C ,15C, and 18C , In fact, the large manorial room probably became a chapter house while a new building was placed against the eastern gable. This new building called the small deanery (disappeared shortly before the French revolution) then constituted the real residence of the deans of the chapter of the Avranches cathedral, You can walk bike or drive to the fortifications from the Porte de Ponts to the Gaôle tower, the Promenoir tower, the Arsenal tower, the barbican, the boulevard, the postern, the Baudange gate and the walls of the first and second enclosure
The Romanesque Saint-André Cathedral appears for the first time in texts in 1025, at the time of its reconstruction. This spanned almost a century; perhaps there were even two construction campaigns. It was consecrated on September 17, 1121. The ancient Notre-Dame-des-Champs Church from the 17-19C at Place Carnot, was located, as its name indicates, outside the town. The 19C Saint-Saturnin Church in neo-Gothic style,at rue Saint-Saturnin, and its immediate surroundings have revealed some faint traces of their distant past, the origins of which seem to date back to the early Middle Ages, The old Saint-Gervais Church,at Place Saint-Gervais, dates from the middle of the 17C. The current one is a vast neoclassical building rebuilt from 1823 to 1899. The church houses numerous works and attracts many visitors each year thanks to its treasure containing the reliquary of the skull of Saint Aubert which constitutes its main asset
The Scriptorial or Mont-Saint-Michel manuscript museum. More than 200 medieval volumes, including translations of works from Antiquity, Aristotle, Boethius, Cicero, Plato.etc.. The Patton Monument and the 3rd American Army, on a mound of earth brought from several American states.
