Again, now on more familiar territory, but always in my road warrior ways ! I have passed by here several times, and visit brother of the wife of my dear late wife Martine ‘s brother,,, and had big parties here with family get together, However, this is a town of 950 inhabitants so not much to see maybe the church, I stop by on my way to Caudry and finally got me a picture of the church, This is the continuation of wonderful sights in the dept 59 Nord of the region of Hauts de France, and in my belle France , Therefore, let me tell you about the Church Saint Germain of Carniéres et al  ! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The town of Carnières is the real rural France and just plain nature, The town is located 12 km from Cambrai. 8 km from Caudry, and 77 km from Lille, We were side stepping for a visit on the road D97 from the road D643 on our way to Caudry.

The Church Saint Germain was built in 1889 at place du Général de Gaulle, This came from an older church built in the 2nd quarter of the 16C, Right next to the church you see a wonderful Gothic bell tower of the old church without a spire, but with a turret dated from 1543, Numerous graffiti are engraved on its walls: names of visitors or residents, inscriptions recalling the passage of German troops during the two world wars, or even the coat of arms of the Jeunesse Ouvriere Chrétienne.(Christian Working Youth).

Another spot to see if time is the British military cemetery from the Great War or WWI located behind the communal cemetery.Occupied from the end of August 1914 by German troops, the village of Carnières remained far from the front until October 10, 1918, when the positions German troops defending the town were attacked by British troops. The fighting lasted several days until the village was finally captured. This cemetery was established on this date , The cemetery contains 54 graves of WWI soldiers who fell during the liberation of the village. Their names are in the link below,

By 1577, Carnières was a provost On October 12, 1870, the Washington balloon flew from Orléans train station in Paris, (later Gare d’Orsay and now Musée d’Orsay) ,then besieged by the Prussians, and ended its journey at Carnières after having traveled 204 kms
