Again, the story continues, It took me a while , worse when you have family about an hour from the city. But often said, living and visiting are two different things . When in the area stay with family and this time again, however, did it in reverse order, when to see Lille and its sights, (stay tune for posts), and then went to see family. Therefore, let me tell you about the Gare Lille Flandres !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The Gare Lille-Flandres train station is at the end of the Paris-Nord line in Lille. It is the main station of the city of Lille, located in the city center, in the department of Nord 59, in the Hauts-de-France region of my belle France. The term Flanders was attached to its name in 1993, during the opening of the nearby Lille-Europe station. This choice is due to its location in French Flanders. It was put into service in 1848. It is an SNCF station, served by TGVs (TGV inOui and Ouigo), InterCity (SNCB) and regional express trains (TER Hauts-de-France network). Lille-Flandres station is the largest TER station in France outside Paris. It is located in a cul-de-sac, in the Lille-Centre district, at 21 meters above sea level. It is close to the Lille-Europe train station (see post), almost 500 meters away. It serves the majority of the former Nord-Pas-de-Calais region.

The Flandres Lille train station has a large hall of riveted lattice structure following the “de Dion three-point” framework model, named after its inventor Henri de Dion who put it into practice in the hall of the Universal Exhibition’s machine gallery.of 1878. Intermediate form between the gable frame and the arch frame, it has a span of 65.36 meters, which is the largest built in France. It has sixteen one-piece cast iron trusses. Its dimensions of 27.15 meters in height, 160 meters in length and a width equal to the span, allow it to cover a floor area of 4,200 meters

In May 1993, the first TGV from Paris arrived at Lille-Flandres train station. A metal footbridge, equipped with fixed and mechanical staircases, serves all of the platforms, and also makes it possible to add two entrances to the station (center commercial Euralille,(see post) , and rue de Tournai, Lille-Flandres train station became, with the arrival of the first VAL metro in 1983-1984, a traffic hub. It is served by lines 1 and 2 of the metro, by lines R and T of the tram, by bus lines L5, L90, L91 and L91 Express (Lianes), 9, 10, 14, 50, 51, 86, 88 and N1 (night line) as well as by the Airport shuttle. Finally, a large fleet of taxis is parked near the station, on Place des Buisses, heading towards Lille-Europe. It also has several self-service bicycle stations (V’Lille), as well as a self-service car station (Citiz).

The former mail sorting center, adjacent to the train station and which was served by its group of tracks, was saved from demolition. As part of the “Lille 2004” operation, it is in fact reconverted, under the name of Tri Postal, into a place for exhibitions and concerts and now offers an exhibition area of 6000 sq meters on three levels. . The train station scene in Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis by Dany Boon was filmed on the platform of track no. 9. The station is also visible in a scene from La Vie d’Adèle
