The neo-Gothic is the Church of the Sacré-Cœur de Jésus  57 Rue Solférino built between 1875-1898, This more completed church is built on a corner of the intersection of rue Nationale and rue Solférino, the high spire serving as a landmark on two of the main axes of the new districts of the city of the time. This was very close to our apartment and we passed by it several times in our stayed, yet very little information on the City or tourist office on it, sadly,The Sacred Heart Church is today part of the new Notre-Dame-de-Pentecôte parish,

The Sacré-Cœur Church is located at the crossroads of rue Nationale and rue Solférino, in the Lille-Centre district. Built during the last decades of the 19C, it contains a set of eleven stained glass windows. The church was built following a vow made by the Ladies of the association of the Children of Mary of the Sacré-Cœur in the Chapel of the Ladies of the Sacré-Cœur, rue Royale on October 7, 1870 to preserve Lille from the Prussian invasion.(similar to the one in Paris), A night time picture of its wonderful belltower!!

Indeed, this is a majestic church, built in neo-Gothic style, it is one of the largest churches in the city: 90 meters long, 24 meters wide and 22 meters high under the main vault. The Sacred Heart Church was erected between 1875 and 1878, then between 1895 and 1898. The apsidal chapels were added during the second half of the 1880s. When the church was consecrated on June 20, 1902, the bell tower was not still completed. The bell tower, 75 meters high, was only completed in 1928. The bell tower houses a carillon of several bells which has been silent for several years.

It adopted a basilica plan, with an ambulatory which goes around the choir. The transept is lit by three rows of openings: a rose window under the vault, five small windows, then two larger ones where the four evangelists are represented. In the apse chapel known as the Chapel of Vows, offered by the Brame-Wallaert family and inaugurated in June 1890, you can admire a set of eleven stained glass windows representing different scenes from the Old and New Testaments.  Two other apsidal chapels, to the right and left of the Chapel of Vows are dedicated respectively to Saint Joseph and the Virgin. The stained glass windows depict scenes from the life of Saint Joseph and the 15 mysteries of the rosary. You have the right side chapels: Chapel of Marguerite-Marie Alacoque and Chapel of Saint Roch and the Holy Face . And left side chapels: Chapel of Notre-Dame de Lourdes and Chapel of the baptismal font or Baptistery The baptistery is located to the left of the narthex. There is the circular porphyry baptismal font; its lid, made of ornate brass, is octagonal to recall the Resurrection of Christ on the eighth day. Its stained glass windows, dated 1899, are directly related to Baptism.
