The Château de Montreuil Bellay, part IV !!!

On the road warrior team we set out again for the region of Pays de la Loire and the dept 49 of Maine-et-Loire to visit Montreuil-Bellay!  We have castles and then castles and on this town a nice church as well, I have written plenty on them but as usual lately found me some pictures that should be in my blog, Therefore, he is my take on the Château of Montreuil-Bellay, part IV  !!! Hope you enjoy it as I.

Montreuil-Bellay is located in the heart of the Loire-Anjou-Touraine Regional Natural Park, less than 25 km from Saumur (Maine-et-Loire), Thouars (Deux-Sèvres) and Loudun (Vienne).  As have plenty written on it in several posts will just do an introduction here to match with the new pictures,

The Château de Montreuil-Bellay is a vast medieval castle, several times remodeled and standing in the heart of the old close town of Montreuil-Bellay. It is the Duke of Anjou Foulque Nerra who built the first citadel on a Roman oppidum in about 1026. The attachment of the Berlay family to the crown of France leads King Philippe Auguste in 1208 and King Louis VIII in 1224 to hold their court at the Château de Montreuil-Bellay.

It has 13 defense towers and 600 meters of ramparts, looks like an impregnable fortress!  The chateau is fully furnished. It is also a wine property whose different vintages you will discover. Inhabited by the same family since 1822 and rich in precious furniture handed down from generation to generation, The visit of the castle is combined with the tasting and the sale of the wines of the domain in AOP Saumur frequently rewarded for their always appreciated quality. And very good value/quality wise, we purchased, The vaulted cellars that support the castle and into which the astonishing Brotherhood of the Knights of Sacavin was enthroned in 1904,serve as the tasting venue! wonderful!! For a stay of several days in the walled town of Montreuil-Bellay, a 17C hotel is also available to visitors with a view of the castle: the Relais du Bellay.

Then, move to Perth Amboy ,New Jersey USA (living there 13 yrs) ; where I completed high school, became a US Citizen, learned to drive a car, and learned English. Afterward, went to the university in Florida, ERAU, and upon graduation decided to moved there to Ormond by the Sea, near Daytona Beach, finally moving North Miami, then Hialeah, then another moved to Silver Lakes division in Miramar, Broward county, Florida; in Florida I lived a total of 18 years. Finally , moved to France in 2003 ,Versailles call me for its royalty, and working in Paris was great. It was time to seek frontiers again and moved to Brech near Auray, Morbihan in Brittany , and later move to not too far Pluvigner. Total so far in France has been 20 years, and counting.
