Now this one is moving up north , where we do have family and comes not just for sightseeing but as living here and visiting family, and probably why there are fewer pictures of sights. It is different and wonderful at the same time. Looking forward to have you enjoy my personal curiosities of the Hauts de France region !!! Hope you enjoy it as I.
First, I bring you to memorable and historical Arras and its Place des Héros named in 1945, in homage to the resistance fighters of the town shot during WWII, The Flemish influence is visible in particular by the scrolled gables overlooking the square, as well as the arcades in front of the houses , Here fifty-two building facades of the square are listed in the historic monuments of Arras. This is where the wonderful Marché de Nöel d’Arras! takes place which runs into the Grand Place , and certainly the best in the North, and the Saturday morning market . Arras’s Christmas Market takes place from the end of November to the end of December, and it has become one of the most important Christmas events organized in the North of France. It is embellished with decorations and illuminations, as well as entertainment for children and concerts.

One memorable restaurant with the family in our many visits was the Café de la Paix at 6 place du Maréchal Foch , sadly it closed and in its place there is a new resto call Yummy’s Restaurant which we have not tried but reviews are good, The current building was badly damaged during WWI, and after having undergone the repairs necessary for its restoration, it was completely demolished following work to align the streets of Arras around 1925. The ground floor of the building was occupied by the café de la Paix, considered by the people of Arras as a friendly place and a gathering point during the city’s festivities. This café is integrated into the reconstruction in a classic style of the building from 1926 The Café de la Paix was followed by a shoe business, then a beauty salon. Memories forever !

Another memorable eating place was the Côte Sud at 10, rue Gambetta The restaurant was located a stone’s throw from Arras train station and many hotels, Folks came to enjoy their Mediterranean cuisine with excellent value for money that you could had enjoyed in an atypical place: a Provençal farmhouse , Sadly it has closed , memories forever !

The Historial de la Grande Guerre or the Historial of the Great War (WWI) is located in Peronne, next to the medieval castle, and taken some parts of it. This museum of the history of WWI, is also ,an international research center and a documentation center.

The Base de Loisirs de Caudry or the Caudry Leisure Center is a 12-hectare green setting, an area conducive to walks and outdoor activities, it is a family place where young and old meet to share an exceptional moment, especially during Sunday walks. Animals, fishing ponds, playgrounds, dovecote and apiary are all strong points for the place , Great memories taken my boys here !!

The one building not to miss is the tourist office or Office de Tourisme – Caudry, at Place du Général de Gaulle, square, Around here you have the City/town hall and the cinema Le Millenium as well as the sublime choco store the La Chocolaterie du Musée. It is ,also, the spot for the weekly market!

At Rue de la République street ,you have the lace museum or musée de la dentelle, and the cultural shops or Les Ateliers Culturels as well as been the route of the local carnival, which is great and we have participated.

The Rue Aristide Briand street comes from the Pl du Général de Gaulle all the way out of town to connect with the road D115E and the Church Saint Barthélemy in Audencourt. Nearer Place du Gén de Gaulle there still is Gérard Lepan grocery store at no 21.

There you go folks, a wonderful historical area and many family memories coming over by car . We passed by the area on our trips to visit family in the Nord so it makes it easy but if you are in Paris you should make the effort to come here, after all France is a mouvable feast! Again, hope you enjoy my personal curiosities of the Hauts de France region as I
And remember, happy travels, good health, and many cheers to all !!!
