After going on business trips, the family asked to go to Rome Italy, Well could not said no and we went, using my FF miles and it was a nice adventure, Plenty written in my blog about it but left some personal pictures out that feel should be in my blog , after all this is my life’s story, While in town, my team did a lot of walking taking public transports on a needed basis , and we came to see wonderful Rome, I like to tell you more about my personal curiosities of Rome !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.
We landed from Nantes at Fiumicino airport and dare take the bus to Termini train station and was perfect on the TAM line. The cost was 5€ one way per person. On the return we tried the limo taxi service hire by the apart for 55€ for the five of us.

I book this apartment after checking the area out with my local business friends and turn out to be perfect !! The That’s Amore Holidays at Via Rodolfo Lanciani, 1. From here we took the glorious bus 62 (see post) , all the way to Castel San Angelo (see post) . The fortunate location of the apartments allows quick bus or metro trips to the old town and the famous monuments of the Eternal City.. The area is full of local, shops and typical restaurants , The apartment change owner is now call 3B Home .Their webpage:https://www.3bhome.it/en

We immediately find out that bus line 62: Repubblica – Piazza di Spagna (Spanish Steps) – Piazza Venezia – Vatican was the top bus to see it all as recommended by the apartment owner, This bus 62 was grand! goes thru all the major tourist attractions from our aprt in Nomentano district. We took it every day for trips into the center of Rome.

Gustando Roma, this is a bit touristic near the Colosseum at Via del Colosseo, 1 (see post) so the prices are a bit high but the ambiance in the basement is sublime and worth it; of course the food is ok. Enjoying Rome in the shadow of the Colosseum, along the promenade of Fori Imperiali, (see post) you are enjoying Rome ! after all. Even thus reviews are not that great we found it ok. No web

The shopping center is Porta di Roma or Gate of Rome just a bit outside the city center but we took the bus no 38 from Termini station to Centro Commerciale Porta di Roma ! The shopping center of Porta di Roma is a wonderfully laid out, modern shopping center which offers a number of services for its customers Inside this mall, there are cafes, bars, restaurants, and a children play area, including a train that brings children on a little tour. It was a pleasant surprise and not even Italian restaurant lol! I believe our best meal while there really, and it was a German resto call Wiener Haus !! Of course, we did a lot of walking to see the marvels of Rome and really did pack a punch to see a bunch, Some of the highlights with personal pictures were :
The Piazza del Popolo a large monumental square, north of the historic center of Rome. Its name, in Italian, literally means place of the people, but it is historically derived from that of poplars trees. The Churches of Santa Maria dei Miracoli c.1681 and Santa Maria in Montesanto c.1679, define the junctions of the streets. A careful examination of the twin Churches shows that they are not mere copies, as it would have been done in a neoclassical project, but that they are different in their details, offering a variety in their symmetrical equilibrium, quite in the Baroque style . An Egyptian obelisk of Heliopolis, due to Seti I and erected later by Rameses II, is located in the center of the square. Three sides of the obelisk were carved under the reign of Seti I and the fourth side under Ramses II. The obelisk, known as the Flaminio Obelisk or Obelisk del Popolo, is the second oldest and one of the largest obelisks in Rome at about 24 meters high, or 36 meters, including the plinth.

The Piazza Navona is Rome’s largest square. Located in the northern part of the Campo di Marte, near the Pantheon, it is built on the ruins of the Domitian Stadium of the 1C, of which it retains the exact form. It is, with its monumental architectural décor one of the most beautiful ensembles of Baroque architecture of Rome. The present square is adorned with three fountains. The center, known as the Fountain of the Four Rivers , and the Fountain of Neptune and the Fountain of the Moor. The obelisk of Piazza Navona bearing in Egyptian hieroglyph the name of Domitian, which is surmounted by a dove, emblem of the family Pamphili (Roman noble family giving many Popes such as Innocent X). The obelisk is 16 meters high (about 52 feet) which originally was part of the Circus Maxentius found in the Appian Way regional park.

The Vatican Obelisk is an Egyptian obelisk, brought to Rome by Caligula to adorn the spina of his new Vatican Circus. It was erected in the center of St. Peter’s Square on September 10, 1586, by order of Pope Sixtus V. The obelisk is made of red granite from Aswan. Its height reaches twenty-five meters thirty-one: it is the second largest obelisk after that of the Lateran, transported to Rome three centuries later. The weight of the obelisk is estimated at 322 tons and the weight of its pedestal at 174 tons.

Glad you had a good time in Rome. And thanks for describing what you saw with important details. Boy, those obelisks are heavy! We just returned from 8 intense beautiful days in Rome. Our 4th visit, and I need to return. My only complaints are that the bus system while extensive is confusing. And its hard to get a taxi. Much thanks
