In my nostalgic saga of my family visits to wonderful places in my belle France, we found one sublime City, Take your time to visit Rouen, it is sublime to say the least and of course , a must to visit, The gorgeous city in the Seine-Maritime dept 76 of the region of Normandie. We have come here often many times, and glad to finally be back again, this time from the Morbihan breton ! . I have my wonderful memories with family visits and even if we are fewer today, the memories lingered forever, The markets particularly was a must to be at for my dear late wife Martine, she loves them all !! I like to tell you more of the markets of Rouen, part II !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I
The best marché or markets that we have enjoy over the years are at place du Vieux Marché (right around Church Jeanne d’Arc) ,on Tuesday to Saturday from 7h to 19h. and Sunday from 7h to 13h, Flea market on Saturday from 7h to 18h. The other been the place St Marc (closer to Church St Maclou) on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday from 6h to 18h. Sunday from 6h to 13h30.
The Old Market square,or place du Vieux Marché located at the west end of the rue d’Horloge and not far from the Gros Horloge or big clock, surrounded by several houses half-timbered or corbelled, whose large part actually consists of old façades done to this square, A small market is always running on a hall with ironwork covered with slates as the adjoining church and which evoke the waves of the ocean. It is a very lively market and we have enjoyed over times again this time.

It housed in the former church Saint-Sauveur who was destroyed in 1793 but including the foundations were identified during the renovation of the square. A small market is always running on a Halle with ironwork covered with slates as the adjoining church and which evoke the waves of the ocean.

The Place Saint-Marc has a nice underground car park with a capacity of 531 places, The name is taken from a chapel where the Cordeliers settled in 1228, before being transferred in 1255 to the Saint-Clément Church. The Saint-Marc chapel, near Aubette, was burned down before 1342 and rebuilt in 1435. In 1794, during the French revolution, the Clos Saint-Marc was called the Clos des Volontaires. Thought as early as 1810, the plans for the square were approved by order of November 12, 1832, At the site of the Clos Saint-Marc hosted the market from 1837. In 1846, small halles were built to house the merchants. The square is linked to the quays by the opening of rue Armand-Carrel in 1844. The square is renowned for its vast market, in particular the Sunday market which brings together food traders and second-hand goods dealers. The halles were destroyed by fire on August 9, 1920, the shells of them host the market still today,
The market here is an institution. The Marché de Saint Marc or St.-Marc Market, one of the largest of the region ,very busy on the big square of the historical center four days a week: Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Fruits, vegetables, textiles and second-hand dealers, particularly in summer, the terraces fill up at eye sight, as soon as the Sun made its appearance. Installed in the Place Saint Marc , since the first half of the 19C, the market spread under and between the halls. Sunday is the day of choice to meet a maximum of small producers. Many growers alongside the cheese makers, butchers, fishmongers in the region… The non-food side, the second-hand dealers hold an important place. Here and there, we meet also a merchant of flowers or a shoe merchant installed in front of a seller of… socks.
