Well, need to do that right away this is essential Spanish traditions at its best, I have mentioned them in previous posts and wrote about Spanish sherries or Jerez/Xeres but not on the bodegas. Therefore, here is my take on Bodega Gonzalez Byass of Jerez de la Frontera, Andalucia, Spain ! This is deep Spain, in fact when visitors comes to Spain or hear about it, what they really see / hear is Andalucia. Hope you enjoy the post as I
I have visited the Bodega Gonzalez Byass, with more an emphasis on art and flamenco than sherries and horses.Needless ,to say I tried all their leading brands on site in their oldest bodega.
The Bodega González Byass is a family winery, founded in 1835, known for its sherries and brandies in Jerez de la Frontera. Tradition and quality are the pillars of this cellar which has almost two centuries of experience. The most emblematic products known theh world over and enjoy by yours truly for many years are Tio Pepe, world leader in Sherry fino sales; Soberano the most sold Brandy in Spain, its country of origin; and Lepanto with its unique bottle made by La Granja Royal Crystal Factory. It was in the 1980s that Gonzalez Byass chose to develop still wines and from then on we find the presence of the group in the main denominations of origin in Spain through Beronia, Vilarnau, Finca Constancia, and Finca Moncloa . In addition, Gonzalez Byass acquires the Chinchôn de la Alcoholera, the only 100% distilled anisette of you know it Chinchon. They ,also, acquired in 2008 all the shares of Viñas del Vero, a historic winery in Somontano. With this purchase, Gonzalez Byass positions itself as a leading player in Spain’s wine industry, with more than 1,844 hectares of vineyards and a total production of 49 million bottles, including wines and brandies.
