The Rioja wineries have surpassed one million visitors for the first time. In 2025, they received a total of 1,164,388 people, a 5% increase compared to the previous year, according to data from the Rioja Qualified Designation of Origin (DOCa). This designation covers 66,797 hectares of vineyards in 144 towns/villages across La Rioja, the Basque Country, and Navarre, and has just celebrated its centenary. This booming segment of the business has led 226 of the 600 wineries in the Rioja DOCa to open their doors to the public, offering tastings, information on the winemaking process, and even a stroll through the vineyards. More than six out of ten visitors come from Spain, with a particularly high concentration from Madrid and Catalonia. As for international tourists, the United States remains the primary market (27% of international visitors), followed by the United Kingdom (21.5%) and Germany (12.3%). These visits offer the opportunity to explore Marqués de Murrieta (Logroño), named the best winery in Europe and third in the world by Forbes magazine in 2025; Marqués de Riscal (Elciego, Álava), the iconic wine cathedral designed by Frank Gehry, which topped the World’s Best Wineyards list in 2024; and the Vivanco Museum of Wine Culture (Briones, La Rioja), one of the most outstanding in its category according to UNESCO. In fact, 81% of wineries in the Rioja DOCa consider wine tourism to be increasingly important, and 75% consider it a profitable activity. The La Rioja wine region : https://riojawine.com/en-us/
Codorníu has once again made a strong entry into the prestigious list of ‘The World’s Most Admired Wine Brands’, ranking 39th. Compiled by the British magazine Drinks International, this global benchmark list, which this year again includes the sparkling wine category, recognizes the winery. Codorníu had already been recognized in the ranking as a Cava producer in 2017 and 2018, and in 2021 and 2022 received the distinction as part of the Raventós Codorníu group. With 475 years of history, Codorníu is the oldest Cava producer in Spain; the first Cava was created by Josep Raventós in 1872.
