I rented a small house in a off the beaten path country town that was just perfect ! I like to continue the saga of our new road warrior experiences even if now with less in our family, This post is on my latest road warrior tour of wonderful sublime Spain. Therefore, let me tell you about the plaza de los Bandos of Salamanca !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.
The City of Salamanca is capital of the province of Salama nca located in the Autonomous Community of Castilla y León, and in the kingdom of Spain. In 1988, the Old City was declared a World Heritage for UNESCO, The City is located 109 km from Ávila, 121 km from Valladolid, 123 km from Portugal and 214 km from Madrid.
The Plaza de los Bandos is located in the historic center of the city of Salamanca, a few meters from the Plaza Mayor. Its name is related to the episodes that occurred for many years of the 15C, in which families of the nobility were disputed the right to govern the city and was pacified by San Juan de Sahagún. This conflict is known as the War of the Sides(bandos), You have here the Palacio de Garci Grande with corner windows that give to the square and to Calle Zamora . It is from the 16C, Also, the Palacio de Solís that was ordered build by Alonso Solís around 1477. In this palace the wedding of Felipe II and María Manuela de Portugal was held in 1543. On the plot, José María de la Vega Samper projected a Neoplateresque building as Central de Telefónica that opened in 1930 and in which it included the remains of the cover and the balcony of the Palace that were the only thing that was preserved, Corner with Calle de los Concilios, the Palacio de Solís, belonging to the side of Santo Tomé. It is in 1928, when Telefónica acquires this plot and its ruins, restoring the palace following the proposals of the regionalist nationalist architecture of the beginning of the century , that in Salamanca resulted in a return to the Baroque and the Renaissance, the late gothic shield and the half -point of the door with the columns original16C. It is in this reconstruction that a third floor that surrounds the tower is added and a gallery is made with openings and the shields of the city and Telefónica are shown.

The old Bank of Spain is now the Centro Internacional del Español (CIE) or International Center of Spanish, you can see the two great shields of the Francoist era, The CIE will host the chair of high studies of Spanish. Therefore, postgraduate researchers will be able to work and investigate and will have virtual access to all resources. The transfer and entrepreneurship space will be found in the plant under cover, where companies and entrepreneurs will be able to develop their projects on Spanish with the design of applications, platforms and materials, which will then result in precisely in the studies of the language. And in the semi -kittan, where the armored chambers are, you can enjoy exhibitions, dramatized readings and everything that contributes to the development of the center, especially for the little ones.

The casa de doña María la Brava is a private house built around 1485, a great representative example of the houses of the Spanish nobility of the second half of the 15C. It is located in the Plaza de los Bandos, on the plot where the true house of Doña María Rodríguez de Monroy was, they built their descendants another around 1485, of which only the facade remains, slightly altered by a balcony with heraldry and vegetable decoration that opened later. The main shield is on the balcony and carries heraldic furniture that on the left carries the weapons of the Monroy, the same that belonged to Mrs. María and the one on the right, those of the Maldonado. For many years of the 20C, the house hosted the dependencies of the Salamanca Pharmaceutical Center and was also a high school. María Rodríguez de Monroy, known as Doña María la Brava , The story tell us that in 1465 occurred in Salamanca a tragic event. In the ball game there was a dispute between the Manzano brothers and the brothers Enriquez, children of Mrs. María. The discussion was engaged and the Manzano killed Doña María’s youngest son; Fearing the revenge of the older brother, they waited for him hidden and also killed him, and fled from the city. Upon learning of their event, their mother, pursued her children’s murderers until she found them in a inn in the city of Viseu in Portugal. There her men set them on and executed them. Doña María ordered them to be decapitated after dead and returned home with the heads, which she deposited in the graves of her children buried in the church of Santo Tomé.
