The Teatro Victoria Eugenia of San Sebastian !!! .

One of the most lively cities in Spain, rich in Basque tradition and close to the French border;you can’t ask for more. The city was first visited from France by car and then from Madrid as well, always wonderful family memories ; and always looking forward to be back eventually. The City was from 1914 built up following Haussmanian architecture as in Paris. That is why is so beautiful…! I found me new picture in my cd rom vault that should be in my blog for you and me, Therefore, let me tell you a bit on the Teatro Victoria Eugenia of San Sebastian !!! Hope you enjoy it as I.

The Teatro Victoria Eugenia Theatre is named in honor of Victoria Eugenia of Battenberg, wife of Alfonso XIII. Built in the Neo-Renaissance style, it was inaugurated in 1912. It hosted important zarzuela premieres and all editions of the San Sebastián International Film Festival until 1999. Between 2001 and 2007, a major restoration of the theatre was completed. Here have played some of the most important interpreters of classical or theater music.

The Victoria Eugenia Theatre, in the Spanish Neo-Renaissance and Neo-Platerasque styles, has its main entrance on the Paseo de la República Argentina and occupies a total area of 2,400 square meters. The main façade features four busts representing the Counts of Peñaflorida, Arriaga, Eslava, Gayarre, Gaztambide, and Santesteban. The main hall is covered by a vaulted ceiling decorated with frescoes in a “costumbrista” style. Before renovations completed in 2007, the theater’s capacity was approximately 1,250 seats. After the renovations, the capacity was reduced to 900, primarily due to the installation of larger seats and the removal of those with poorer visibility. The main hall’s seating is divided between the main seating area, the upper level reserved for balconies ;accessed via the steps just inside the theater’s entrance, the lower level, and the amphitheater. Following the renovations, two new spaces were created: the “Sala Club,” built beneath the seating area thanks to the considerable depth lost in the former seating area, and a dance and ballet studio under the building’s roof. The theater also houses the offices of the San Sebastián Jazz Festival, the Musical Fortnight, and the San Sebastián International Film Festival.
