The Church San Miguel of Olmedo !!!

We were back to my dear Spain again !! love it !! We came by car of course and took time to see new areas and old repeat with some of them as introduction to my sons and our dog Rex ! I rented a small house in a off the beaten path country town that was just perfect ! I like to continue the saga of our new road warrior experiences even if now with less in our family, This post is on my latest road warrior tour of wonderful sublime Spain.  Therefore, let me tell you about the Church San Miguel of Olmedo !!! The town of Olmedo is in the province of Valladolid in the autonomous community of Castilla Y-León in the kingdom of Spain, The city is a Mudejare architectural home. It is 60 km from my home base of Velliza, on the A6 and CL 602 roads, and 42 km from Valladolid ,and 147 km from Madrid, We were in town and parked by parking Plaza Mayor, superbe.

The Church San Miguel (St Michael) is located at Calle San Miguel, 33, It is a Gothic and mudélar style of the 13C. The Mudejar made the church of San Miguel the largest artistic jewel that Olmedo feels proud. This construction keeps inside the best essences of brick art. Entering the church surprises the traveler with the beautiful perspective In the nave of the Gospel we find a magnificent sepulcher in which the coexistence of the three cultures, Islamic, Jewish and Christian is evident. In the sepulcher we observe the ornamental resources that this cultural eclecticism, the decoration of Ataurique (decorative motif of plant forms), joins the decoration of the stars of David symbols of Judaism, and the beautiful medieval letter with a Christian text make this grave a true cultural wing.

Without leaving the Gospel nerf we find an altarpiece. In the tables of this altarpiece we see the flamenco painting emerge, in that magdalena kneeling in the Calvary that shows his redhead redhead and a whitish complexion, or in the two thieves who accompanied Christ in the Golgota. In the middle of the central nave we also appreciate two colossal sculptures of San Joaquín and Santa Ana made in the 18C. Special attention deserves the central image that represents the copatron of the town of Olmedo San Miguel Arcángel.  Now we descend the stairs to the crypt of the Virgen de la Soterraña, we find a great ornamental wealth in its dome. The frescoes that decorate this stay have as an iconographic theme characters from the Old Testament. In the center we observe the main altarpiece of the Virgen de la Soterraña 18C. It presides over the sculpture of the 13C of the Virgin of the Soterraña, this image begins to dress in the 16C and data from a mantle that would give to the Virgin Queen Margarita of Austria’s wife of Felipe III are known. The altarpiece is crowned by four virtues: strength (column), Esperanza (anchor), faith (hand on the heart and bandaged eyes) and temperance. In two niches to the sides of the Virgin, the representation of San Joaquín and Santa Ana is found. In the lower one next to the Tabernacle there are the sculptures of San José with El Niño and San Antonio de Padua. In the side chapels we find two beautiful altarpieces, in the chapel of the Gospel is that of St. Bartolomé, a holy who in his martyrdom was torn off his skin, which he has hung on his arm. Above him is a painting of Santa Eustaquia. On the altarpiece, we find two beautiful sculptures that are probably part of a ordeal, these sculptures represent San Juan and the Virgin. In the chapel of the epistle another altarpiece of the same author that represents San Jerónimo on the central canvas. that is found in its desk translating the Bible and in the superior to Santa Paula. As a curious note, the Soterraña flag that flies over one of the stands out.

Afterward, went to the university in Florida, ERAU, and upon graduation decided to moved there to Ormond by the Sea, near Daytona Beach, finally moving North Miami, then Hialeah, then another moved to Silver Lakes division in Miramar, Broward county, Florida; in Florida I lived a total of 18 years. Finally , moved to France in 2003 ,Versailles call me for its royalty, and working in Paris was great. It was time to seek frontiers again and moved to Brech near Auray, Morbihan in Brittany , and later move to not too far Pluvigner. Total so far in France has been 20 years, and counting.
