It has been a wonderful rollercoaster ride with lots of memories and thrills! One of this was our road warrior trips in the Comunidad de Madrid of my dear Spain. . Again, I have written on the town before, but felled needed to do justice with a post of its own to this wonderful monument,  A bit of orientation first ,just to tell you  Villarejo de Salvanés is located at the km 48 of the expressway A3 Madrid-Valencia.  Therefore, let me tell you about the Torre del Homenaje of Villarejo de Salvanés !!! The Torre del Homenaje or tower of homage or castle of Villarejo of Salvanés , constitutes a unique architectural site in Spain. The castle of Villarejo of Salvanes was part of the defensive system that protected the passage by the old way of Toledo, as well as by the so-called  Senda Galiana (Roman road that linked the Galia (France) and Hispania (Spain), in use during the Middle Ages). The castle of Villarejo of Salvanes was the seat of the special court of the military orders and, in the 19C, was accommodated as a refugee to Gen. Juan Martín Díez ,the subborn one ( Empecinado). Hero of the Spanish War of Independence, El Empecinado participated in several episodes, which became legendary, where he routed the Napoleonic army. Despite the fact that only the keep tower remains, it is a unique example of architecture in Spain as the peepholes are grouped on the sides and not on the edges as is common in Spanish military architecture. It has been restored and you can visit the inside. Located at the Plaza de la Constitución, 1A.

After the loss of their military function, the castles would become stately possessions or under the tutelage of military orders. In the case of the castle of Villarejo, since the end of the 12C, it was under the tutelage of the Order of Santiago, being located in the lands encompassed within the entrustment of the Tagus Ribera that Alfonso VIII delivered to said order. In the 17C, the entrance door had been blinded and the drawbridge disassembled in addition to several canvases and a cube had serious damage. In the 18C many of the stones of the castle had been plundered to build buildings of the urban environment.

The castle is formed by a large central tower of about 16 meters. sideways and about 22 meters high. Its edges and the center of its four sides are flanked by eight cylindrical buttresses, 3 meters in diameter that travel all the elevation of the building from its base to the cusp. A square floor shirt of almost 25 meters. On the side with three cylindrical towers at its angles surround the tower. A fifth circular plant tower is interspersed in the middle of the western flank. The walls have a gross of 1.8 meters. The five cubes, of just over five meters in diameter, are hollow. To the north of this unit set, several structures are articulated.
