This is Davie !!!

Well ,again, browsing thru my blog realise some special places were lost in other posts and really they deserve a post of their own, These wonderful towns of my nostalgic Florida where I spent many days playing, eating and sightseeing with the family, This has brought lots of memories and thrills to relook these family trips, Therefore, here is my take on this is Davie !! Hope you enjoy the post as I

The town of Davie is in my former Broward County,of my dear Florida, situated approximately 24 miles north of Miami. The town was previously known as “Zona,” but within a few years it was given the name “Davie” in gratitude for the school Robert Parsell Davie built and his other contributions, Davie had always a reputation as a “Western” town, with many earlier buildings having “Wild West” architecture. It boasts a significant horse-owning population and once was home to many herds of cattle.

However, the main thing my family came here was the Egyptian deco cinema which was and is awesome. I love this Cinemark Paradise. It was close to our last home in Miramar Silver Lakes and even visited and saw film while visiting from France in 2009. The popcorn and the frosty coke is awesome. Love it. Also you can hide here in case of a hurricane. This place is very secure. The seats are big and very comfortable. awesome theater… definitely worth coming over.

Other nice attractions here is Flamingo Gardens  a 60-acre (24 ha), Tropical Botanic Garden and Everglades Wildlife Sanctuary, aviary and zoo, located at 3750 South Flamingo Road. Others are ; the Bergeron Rodeo Grounds were founded in the early 1940s The Davie School (aka the Old Davie School) is a historic school  located at 6650 Griffin Road. It opened its doors in 1918 to 90 students, and was in continuous use as a school until 1978.  It is the oldest extant school building in Broward County. The Training Facility at Nova Southeastern University, formerly the Miami Dolphins Training Facility, is located on the main campus in Davie, It is the former headquarters location for the Miami Dolphins, as well as a location for frequent special events Pine Island Ridge The natural area was once the site of hunting camps of the Tequesta Native American tribe, as well as a refuge for the Seminole during the Second Seminole War (1835-1842) part of Davie since 1989.

A bit of history tell us  that prior to European colonization, the Tequesta indians were the native people of what is now Davie. After Spanish colonization, many of the Tequesta died and the remaining few escaped to Havana with the Spanish when Florida became a British colony (1763 for a few months) or they assimilated into the newly arrived Seminoles indians in the late 18C.

Como has echado a perder tantos paraísos!
