The city of Madrid is the capital of the kingdom of Spain, and located in the Comunidad de Madrid region From my latest escapes it is 211 km from Valladolid City , 198 km from our rental house in Velliza, 183 km from Tordesillas, 172 km from Rueda, 159 km from Medina del Campo, 199 km from Simancas, We made long walks all over the City , and took the metro when necessary, three times. I love to tell you of our latest escape to the wonderful City, for the memories of always and return, eventually.
The Pasteleria Mallorca, has the best pastries in Madrid for years…lately it has gone into restaurant too, the one at Calle Serrano 6 is a dandy not to miss. the centenary cafeteria-Patiseria La Mallorquina, located in the area between the Calle Mayor and Calle Arenal, The store at Puerta del Sol sell its pastries yummy too.

The Chocolateria San Gines, Pasadizo de San Gines,5, near Puerta del Sol, a must as it is nostalgic for me, my mom used to take me there when as a kid love those churros dip in hot chocolates ,yummy. I have come here each time in Madrid since 1970 , with some years of absent has been pretty consistant An institution if now too much touristic. Metro Sol line 1,2,3, cercanias train.

The Horchatería Alboraya. Two addresses in Madrid: Calle de Alcalá, 125 (where we tasted right off metro Principe de Vergara metro lines 2 and 9) and Avenida Felipe II, 26 (where we saw it too). The tradition of this place begins with the grandparents, who cultivated their first tigernut in Alboraya in 1960. Then, the next generation founded the first Alboraya tiger nut milk factory in Madrid This is great just where I grew up not far really, not far from Retiro Park on the famous Calle de Alcalà (mine!) and a family tradition at its best.

Huge ice cream pots and great flavor at reasonable prices, we will be back, a new find in my dear Madrid, The Heladería Puerta Real bases its activity on the production and marketing of ice cream with the best recipes and natural, quality ingredients. This time while my boys got their scoops of ice creams I took the guava milkshake, delicious ! And this time took pics of the inside!!

My sweet former neighborhood resto bar Docamar at Calle de Alcalá, 337. Metro: Quintana, line 5, just at the foot of my piso/apartment when lived in Madrid in the early 1970’s and my pilgrimage visit every year to Madrid, as brings back wonderful memories of my dear late Mom Gladys ,late Dad Elio and late wife Martine. If you want to try some of the best ‘patatas bravas’ in town (since 1963) , you’ll have to head out here, beyond the M-30 ring road. We came back and took the first floor dining this time, I was able to speak with the waiter who has been here for only 3 years ; I beat him told him I am here since 1972 !! A tribute to the faithful neighborhood, where, it is normal to share! We had of course the patatas bravas, huge tortilla (omelete) croquetas and big glass of Estrella Damm beers. Another nice chat and glorious food of my dear Madrid ! this is Docamar in the Quintana neighborhood of Ciudad Lineal district. Memories forever !
