The curiosities of Rueda !!!

We are back to my dear Spain again !! love it !! We came by car of course and took time to see new areas and old repeat with some of them as introduction to my sons and our dog Rex ! I came into Rueda after several years and it was sublime ! I like to continue my road warrior stories this time in Rueda, Therefore, here is my take on the curiosities of Rueda !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The town of Rueda is located in the province of Valladolid and the autonomous community of Castilla y Léon in the kingdom of Spain, It is 43 km from Valladolid City ,22 km from our rental house in Velliza, and 172 km from Madrid, We walked all over the small town, and saw wonderful monuments. I like to keep them in my blog for the memories of always and return, eventually.

The City Hall or ayuntamiento of Rueda was rebuilt in 1883, the only thing that maintains original on its facade where the real shield with weapons of Felipe II stands out in its auction.

There are a string of shops bars restos and wonderful architectural mansions along the main Calle del Santisimo Cristo, into Plaza Mayor and Calle Real cutting right into the center of the town, which we rode and walked all of it ! A clear testimony of the importance of Rueda is reflected in the architecuturally stunning noble houses, modernist facades and balconies that make up a beautiful walk for the visitor’s delight.

Another building of interest is the old house with a brick archery support on stone pillars where the headquarters of the Regulatory Council of the D.O. Rueda, denomination of older origin in Castilla y León and where the public school of girls was located.

In 1977, the denomination of origin Rueda was recognized and is definitively approved in 1980, being the oldest in Castilla y León and establishing the headquarters of the Regulatory Council of the D.O. Rueda in the town. Likewise in 1986, Rueda becomes the headquarters of the Enological Station of Castilla y León. The Rueda character is defined by three elements: the green Verdejo grape, the continental climate and the cascalase floors. The Verdejo grape is its native variety and has lived for centuries in the designation of origin. It is very likely that the Mozarabs brought the Verdejo variety from North Africa, after an adaptation period in southern Spain. Remember, if you drink verdejo you won’t get old,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,a local saying.

Rueda has more than 20 wineries located within the urban nucleus, many of which can be visited to practice wine tourism, know firsthand and at the foot of vineyard the elaboration of our famous broths and finish the visit with a tasting or tasting. Some of the other wineries in town are Félix Sanz, Finca Montepedroso, Grupo Yllera, Menade, Mocén, Ramon Bilbao, Valdecuevas, and Viore.  Pagos del Rey project started in 2002 with the aim of making quality wines in the most prestigious wine making regions in Spain, with wines with their own personality. All of them have a modern design that combines tradition and innovation, and the latest technology in wine making. Pagos del Rey S.L in Rueda The winery in Rueda was opened in 2005. It is a beautiful brick façade with the latest technology. It is in this winery where the brand Blume is born, leader brand in DO Rueda wines in the off trade in SpainVerdejo is the main grape and the symbol of the identity of the region. Bodegas Prado Rey (where we purchase nice welcome) Our wines were the Analivia Sauvignon Blanc, Analivia Verdejo Seleccion , and the Blume Verdejo Seleccion, In Vino Veritas !(latin) In wine, the truth (Eng)

In the month of June 2013, the Rueda Wine Route Association was created. This association, which brings together public entities and private, aim is the promotion and growth of tourist offer in the geographical area of the D.O. Rueda, the first denomination created in Castilla y León. In addition Rueda is one of the few European wine areas specialized in the elaboration of white wine and in the protection and development of its native variety, Verdejo, (which a local saying if you drink verdejo you won’t get old! )although some high quality reds and pinks are also made. 72 towns are integrated, of which 53 are located south of the Province of Valladolid, 17 west of Segovia and two north of Ávila. However the vineyards reaches its greatest concentration and intensity in the municipal terms of the Seca, Rueda and Serrada.

A bit of history I like tell us that the foundation of Rueda dates from the Roman era and with the name of “Roda” is cited in a chronicle during the reign of D. Pelayo, It was part of Medina del Campo, until, King Felipe IV granted it the title of Villa. Since then there is already documentable proof of the relationship between Rueda and wine and why its wine is recognized worldwide.
