I came into Medina del Campo after several years and it was sublime ! I like to continue my road warrior stories this time in Medina del Campo. The City of Medina del Campo is located in the province of Valladolid and the autonomous community of Castilla y Léon in the kingdom of Spain, It is 54 km from Valladolid City , 42 km from our rental house in Velliza, and 160 km from Madrid. If for anything else, this is a must to come here, me think, sublime castle!
The Castillo de la Mota (castle) has a trapezoidal plant and consists of two enclosures. The first Barbacana is low, with cubes at the angles and in the center of each of its sides. It presents escarpa to the pit, and the door is protected by two robust towers, communicated vertically. The second enclosure, much more solid, has high walls and strong towers at the angles, highlighting theTorre del Homenaje for its elevation. This Torre del Homenaje 15C has a square plant and measures 38 meters high and 13 meters width on each side of its outer perimeter. United to the walls of the second enclosure, it forms the north angle of the same, defending the entrance door that gives to the courtyard. Currently, it consists of five floors. The Patio de Armas or weapons patio 20C is a construction that is organized by means of three bays that open to the patio by a series of pointed arches, reproducing the original traces of the castle dependencies. The Gothic cover is an emptying of which Beatriz Galindo, La Latina, in the Latin Hospital that bore her name since she was its founder was ordered. The Chapel 20C is dedicated to Santa María del Castillo; It is Romanesque-Mudéjar sober and serene lines, adjusted to the norms of the purest liturgy and Christian symbology. The Castillo de la Mota (castle) located in an elevation of the land from comes its name of Mota, dominates the town and its entire region. In 1441 it was, however, the king of Castile who dominated the villa and the Mota, Subsequently, the castle became a state imprisonment and different characters were arrested, such as Hernando Pizarro, Rodrigo Calderón, Duke Fernando de Calabria, César Borgia or Count Aranda. For both, the fortress of the Mota from 1476- 83, together with that of Coca, should be considered among the best of their time in Europe, at the height of others, such as the French of Dijon (c. 1480) and above the Italian of Mondavio (c. 1488) and Ostia (c. 1483) that have been traditionally considered the most advanced of their time.
During the War of the Communities in 1520-1521, the fortress remained faithful to the crown, although Medina was of communers and controlled the artillery park. After the Spanish Civil War, General Franco delivered the castle as a central headquarters to the Women’s section of the FET party of the JONS ( the Spanish Traditionalist Falange and the National Offensive Sindicalists union).
