The City of Valladolid is in the province of Valladolid, in the Autonomous Community of Castilla y Léon, only 202 km from from Madrid, For me, this is a must to visit and glad finally made it here, first time or better late than never as the saying goes.

The Casa Museo Cervantes  is the authentic house that inhabited Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra in 1605. Although the Cervantes family lived in a single room in a single house, and three have been united to form the museum. It is located on the calle del Rastro and by this street it has its entrance, although the gardens that extend ahead end up in a gate that gives to the Calle Miguel Iscar, (where we entered) to which it is accessed by the pasaje de Dulcinea. In the garden the remains of the old facade of the hospital of the Resurrection were installed, which in Cervantes times was close to his house and that is the scene of one of his exemplary novels, El coloquio de los perros or the colloquium of the dogs

In 1600 the court of king Felipe III moved to Valladolid, until 1606 when he returned to Madrid again. In 1602, in what was called the Acera del Rastro (sidewalk), the construction of five pairs of houses began, one of the which, or rather part of it, was the one that inhabited Cervantes in 1605. While Cervantes living in one of the houses built by Juan de las Navas, an incident occurred in which justice and police had to intervene  and in which Cervantes and his family were involved. The transcript of the investigation is, although of a brief moment of his life, the best portrait of the life of Cervantes we have. The history of the process was found at the end of the 18C in the Archive of the Royal Chancery of Valladolid. Without editing for several years ; because the reflexes of the somewhat cheerful lives of the sisters of Cervantes were not to the taste of the 19C Cervantists, today it is preserved and cared for in the Royal Spanish Academy as a very precious document. Thanks to this document, the place of the house that Cervantes lived during his stay in the city of Valladolid could be found exactly.

Cervantes had been collecting back tax ,and commissioner of the Navy; since, according to the same document that allowed the identification of the house, a Genoese nod and a Sevillian banker visited him for business, it is assumed that he worked in the bank, as an accountant. Since then the house of Cervantes has not varied practically nothing and the other new houses are preserved with it. Some of his famous works were written here such as El coloquio de los perros, El casamiento engañoso, La ilustre fregona, El licenciado Vidriera ,and several others. At present it is the Casa Museo de Cervantes is managed by the Ministry of Culture. In addition to the visit of the locals ,curious and tourists, it offers literary days every month and tributes to Cervantes every April 23, the day of the Spanish language at the United Nations.

The city of Valladolid honor him again with a statue of Cervantes located in the Plaza de la Universidad ,and was inaugurated on September 29, 1877, the monument that had erected Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra. The monument was destined for a place in front of the Casa Museo de Cervantes on Calle del Rastro, where the illustrious writer had lived from 1605. The reliefs were placed in the courtyard ; a new stone pedestal was made and thus, the statue was transferred in 1889 to the Plaza de la Universidad, where it still resides.
