We are back to my dear Spain again !! love it !! We came by car of course and took time to see new areas and old repeat with some of them as introduction to my sons and our dog Rex ! I rented a small house in a off the beaten path country town that was just perfect ! I like to start this new road warrior adventure in my blog with the post, this is Velliza !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

We came down quickly on the N165 to Nantes and there took the A10 towards Bordeaux and then the A63 towards Spain passing by Irun and San Sebastian, cutting into Vitoria Gazteiz (castle) and continuing towards Burgos and Valladolid to arrive at pleasantly small Velliza on the VP 5806 county road. We put gas/petrol just once at Saint Jean de Luz A63 exit/sortie 3 into 1 avenida de Lahanchipia, Leclerc supermarket for cheaper gas at 1.64 per liter….

And got into our Atelier apart house at Calle Humilladero 7, (pic below from house) Oh yes as usual by me, the town of Velliza is in the province of Valladolid, in the Autonomous Community of Castilla y Léon, only 24 km from Valladolid, 10 km of Tordesillas, 5 km from Simancas, 43 km from Medina del Campo ,and 199 km from Madrid. Stay tune for more on these towns later.

Velliza has a couple of nice places to see and walk its old streets with the mountain facing us all the town and wonderful views from our house upper sun deck! And yes for the finance person like me Velliza is 1081 km from home done in 12h30 hrs stopping for gas, food and Rex! Tolls were 58.72 euros one way down. The Spanish border is 730 km from my house! And we did found a nice grocery store about 6 km from the rental house Agropal good stuff great prices! in the limits of the town of Simancas.
The Church of San Millán: dominating the urban center of the town, as it is installed on a small hill, superb stone building of three naves built between the 16C and 18C. The main chapel has a polygonal plant with five wall canvases and is covered with a flat crossing vault. The main altarpiece, from the first quarter of the 17C, is an altarpiece that has two bodies, three panels, two side ones and attic, with overlap of Tuscan and Corinthian styles. The attic is a box topped with a pediment, with lateral alletes decorated with diamond tips and flanked by balls. The friezes of the upper body are decorated with vegetables motifs.

Also see the Ermita del Cristo del Humilladero.

It would not be ventured to think that a few years before or after the battle of Simancas (August 6, 939) these peoples were created (or Christian hands were passed, already pre -existing, of Visigothic or Islamic origin) of the Tordesillas area, Like Velliza was in its origins owned by the King of León. It was nestled in the jurisdiction of Tordesillas and belonged to it until 1270, when Alfonso X granted it to a gentleman of his trust,
