One of the great architectural and historical cities of my Spain. It’s a must if open the free admission the Interpretation Centre: The Universes of Cervantes , this was previously the building was the hermitage San Juan de los Caballeros where the nobility were buried and those in prison paid their penalties as well as a burial for the cavalery.  This is now an eye opener into the life and times of Cervantes where you can even see the baptismal vase where he was baptised on the wishes of his father Rodrigo and mother Leonor.

Around the figure of Miguel de Cervantes, in the plaza de Rodriguez Marin just after the plaza de Cervantes ,see the former chapel of the Oidor(listener) part of the temple in which the author of El Quijote, the missing parish church of Santa María la Mayor was baptized. Inside, we can admire among other pieces of great value the baptismal font or a reproduction of the baptism departure of Cervantes, dated October 9, 1547. In addition, it has an important programming of temporary exhibitions throughout the year.

This space was created by the City Council of Alcalá de Hénares in 2005 as a climax to the commemoration acts of the IV Centenary of the edition of the first part of El Quijote, becoming a space dedicated entirely to Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra. This enclosure was in the Middle Ages of San Juan de los Caballeros,in the 15C, the parish of Santa María was moved to it and it is there, where in 1547, he receives the baptismal waters. In Oidor chapel currently hosts the development of the project “The Universes of Cervantes” In its different spaces: Antezana Sala, Chapel of the Oidor and the old sacristy. The access is made through the door of the Oidor Sala-Capilla, The first door is made of double -leaf, it opens inwards. Subsequently there is a double -leaf glass door, which always remains open during visits. The first room is of temporary exhibitions (former sacristy).Later ,you move on to the Antezana room, and the visit ends in the Oidor chapel room, of great architectural wealth and in which the baptismal font of Cervantes is located.
