The FNAC or Fédération Nationale d’Achats des Cadres; in Spanish sort of the Federación Nacional de Compras de los Ejecutivos is a French company, a subsidiary of Groupe Fnac Darty, specializing in the sale of electronic items, computers, photographic articles, books, music and video. It also offers Internet sales and is one of the pioneer groups in this format in their country of origin.

Fnac at Madrid, since the inauguration of its first headquarters on Calle Preciados, reserves in several of its buildings a space called Forum, where literary events, workshops, concerts, talks and audiovisual projection are held, among others. The  Callao building, which has access by Calle Preciados, the busiest commercial street in Spain and third in Europe, is a building dating from the 1940’s. It has 11,630 square meters of surface distributed over eleven floors. with Fnac, the flagship that this group has since 1993, its first store in Spain . Starting in the second quarter of 2023, the Callao 5 building, where the store is located, will be the subject of renovation work that will contribute to the revitalization of the area. The store will remain open during the works. The remodelling will be only on the inside as the outside features will remain on the building.

You have the typical chains like FNAC Spain,  with the perennial main store at plaza Callao and metro Callao lines 3, 5. Which spills over to Calle Preciados near Sol, where we always come by.  At Callao/Preciados my boys loaded up on mangas books lol !! always a drain lol !!!  As we come to Madrid often, over the years, shopping is a must and always do and always will do, nothing beat going out in Madrid, the FNAC is a nice encounter indeed, They had a store by Nuevos Ministerios off Paseo de la Castellana 79 that we had visited , convenient off the metro line 8 to the airport but has since closed.(a picture for the  memories of always). However, they have additional stores at Calle Goya, 42,Calle Antonio Lopéz ,109, And the Shopping Center (mall) La Vaguada at Avenida Monforte de Lemus,36.

  1. Do you still like FNAC? We have a FNAC in Antwerp, but it’s not what it used to be. The offering of books and CD’s is not great. I’d rather go all the way to Lille for Le Furêt du Nord.

  2. FNAC is also for me a chain of stores that still attracts me, even if its disruptive and militant role of the early days has been lost since its takeover by financial groups seeking profitability primarily. I remember my relief at finding an FNAC store in Rio de Janeiro when one of my cameras had just broken down and I’d forgotten the charger for the other. It saved my stay.
