The Monument to Vittorio Emanuele II of Rome, part II !

On my family trip to Rome , we were confronted with lots of history and architecture which we love. However, one building really struck us for its size, meaning and even a bit of controversy. It sits in the middle of old Rome yet the building is newer sort of a big contrast that Romans and visitors alike come to understand and like. We like it too. Oh yes it is the Monument of Vittorio Emmanuell II the unifying king of Italy known there as Vittoriano as well. I like to add to my previous post on as found older new pictures to my blog that should be in, Therefore, here my take on the Monument to Vittorio Emanuele II of Rome, part II ! The monument to Vittorio Emanuele II is located in Piazza Venezia (Venice Square). At the center of the monument stands the altar of the Fatherland (Altai della Patria), while the interior of the building houses the museum on the Reunification of Italy (Museo del Risorgimento).  The immense monument of an immaculate white marble, made between 1885 and 1911 to celebrate the 50 years of the Italian unity. It was built in honor of Victor Emmanuel II, the first king of Italy unified in 1861. It was built in the neo Classic style.

A visit to the Monument to Vittorio Emanuele II, or Vittoriano, represents an unmissable experience for anyone, Italian or non-Italian. The complex, designed in January 1878, following the death of the first king of Italy, Vittorio Emanuele II, was inaugurated in 1911. Later it welcomed other memories of extreme importance in the identity of the young nation, such as the Tomb of the Unkonwn Soldier, The Vittoriano stands in the center of Rome, tall and majestic. Climbing the large steps and reaching the spectacular terrace at the top thanks to the panoramic lifts, walking through its monumental spaces, stopping and reflecting on the memories of the nation means entering the heart of Italy. The Italy of yesterday, daughter of the long and troubled Risorgimento process, and the Italy of today, democratic and European.

Then, move to Perth Amboy ,New Jersey USA (living there 13 yrs) ; where I completed high school, became a US Citizen, learned to drive a car, and learned English. Afterward, went to the university in Florida, ERAU, and upon graduation decided to moved there to Ormond by the Sea, near Daytona Beach, finally moving North Miami, then Hialeah, then another moved to Silver Lakes division in Miramar, Broward county, Florida; in Florida I lived a total of 18 years. Finally , moved to France in 2003 ,Versailles call me for its royalty, and working in Paris was great. It was time to seek frontiers again and moved to Brech near Auray, Morbihan in Brittany , and later move to not too far Pluvigner. Total so far in France has been 20 years, and counting.   1. I had the chance to visit the monument’s interior during my last stay in Rome, and it’s true that the corridors and staircases follow one another with such grandeur and solemnity. The terrace is also a perfect place to catch the sunset over Rome.
