I have done quite a bit of shopping over the years as always went along with my late dear Mom Gladys , and tagged along my late dear Dad Elio and/or my late dear Wife Martine. I am a lousy shopper just come in take, pay, and go, but they were much better, they knew where to get a bargain and good quality/price ratio items. However, there are some shops/stores we love and come back year after year with some new ones popping up once in a while ; tradition dies hard, I like to tell you about my shopping in Madrid, part IV !!! Hope you enjoy it as I.
This was a new experience in 2019 coming along with my boys, We took a sad lapse and gain strenght to be back to this hollow streets, shops stores of my dear Madrid, Back in 2019 we discovered ZapShop at the Puerta Del Sol 6; it so happen this is now their newest and flagship store with the admin office on the upper levels! The prices were great as I got my pair of shoes ,and they were very comfortable! We came back recently July 2023 and came back here for the memories and good bargains again on sales!!They open several stores in Madrid as well, I got my pair of shoes again !!!

Oh yes El Corte Inglés department store, a classic for many many years , and a cardholder too ! The nice stores are by the Puerta del Sol and just coming out left on Nuevos Ministerios line 8 . However , the best is at calle Preciados next to the Puerta del Sol, where we stopped by again, Always reliable, class act ! And of course, why not a Real Madrid souvenir to take home, the best club in the history of football/soccer !! (FIFA/IFHHS), We , actually have been more times to their store at Calle del Carmen 3, but this time we came by the stadium and on the original inside even with all the construction going on, the store was open and packed !!! My sons loaded up again !! They are becoming more diehard fans than me lol !

You have the typical chains like FNAC Spain, with the perennial main store at plaza Callao and metro Callao lines 3, 5. Which spills over to Calle Preciados near Sol, where we always come by, The other store by Nuevos Ministerios off Paseo de la Castellana 79 has closed. At Callao/Preciados my boys loaded up on mangas books lol !! again,,,,, The official FNAC on store Callao or Calle Preciados : https://www.fnac.es/Fnac-Callao/Fnac-Callao/cl2/w-4
I always buy many things when coming to Madrid, but one that cannot be missed are Turrones or nougats, the Jijona kinds the best in the world since I was born !!! And now gladly , my sons are taking over and do enjoy them a lot, So I chose the Casa1880 at Calle Mayor 9 for our load and we all purchase some bags full even orange blossom honey and Turron liquor (sort of like Baileys) with a delicious nougat taste and 70% alcohol content lol ! Of course, we purchase chocolates too, However the turrons were the prime event and delicious as you can taste them in the store as well !!

And if one to go to a pharmacy which of course usually is not the best shopping to do, but with history go to the oldest one in Madrid since 1578!! Farmacia Real Botica de la Reina, Calle Mayor 59. It has many unusual things such as recipes by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra (Don Quijote) and Calderon de la Barca etc. A bit of history I like, Its apothecary provided service to Isabel de Farnesio, for which reason, since then, it has used the royal coat of arms and the name ‘Botica de la Reina Madre’. It was acquired in 1931 by José Cid Guerrero and, since then, has belonged to his heirs. The counter is made of carved mahogany, with ornaments of angels and a series of geometric drawings that limit a relief where the name ‘Reina Madre stands out. The panels show in blue tile the date on each one: 1578, the year the pharmacy was founded, and 1914, the date on which it moved to its current location, on Calle Mayor. The establishment preserves the furniture, much of the Talavera ceramics, porcelain from the Buen Retiro factory and glassware, part of it from La Granja de San Ildefonso, It also keeps an interesting file and library and instruments: hoppers, baby-scales, etc.
