The Canal de Panama at Panama !!!

Once again looking in my vault of pictures found pictures, that should be in my blog for you and me. This was the desire to see more of the place of our world in one of business trips to ¨Panama many years ago, The locals told me about it so asked to see it and they took me there by taxi and car, a memorable road warrior trip, Therefore, let me tell you a bit on the Canal de Panama at Panama !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The Panama City has wonderful sights with the skyline of some of the tallest skyscrapers in Latin America, enjoy the Pacific breeze as you ride along the Bay of Panama, walk among archaeological sites and trails, and see how colonial history and the night come alive in the same place. Its buildings portray it as a modern city, but it is also a historic city. In fact, it holds two other cities, both declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. The oldest one is Panama Viejo or old Panama, it is an archaeological site that preserves the ruins of the first city, founded in 1519 and destroyed by pirates. The other one is Casco Antiguo or old town, a walled colonial city full of color, history and flavor. Walk around its streets, you’ll find a great offer of museums, hotels and the best nightlife, with rooftops and restaurants. From Miami International Airport to the Marcos A. Gelabert Albrook International Airport of Panama City to my business dealing by Plaza Herrera stayed in the Hotel San Felipe and on one time took a taxi to the Mirador del Puente de las Americas to see the Puente de las Americas bridge, and later was taken to see the Locks of Miraflores by the Canal of Panama ! A memorable trip even if not much to show nowdays.

The Puente de las Americas is a roadway for vehicles that crosses the Panama Canal, the height of its entrance to the Pacific, and the location of Balboa, Panama City and the Arraiján district. Inaugurated on October 12, 1962, it was a route that connected the continents of North America and Central America with South America, separated by the Panama Canal. The Mirador del Puente de las Americas is a picturesque viewpoint that showcases the stunning natural beauty of Coclé Province in Panama. Nestled amidst lush landscapes, this tourist attraction provides visitors with breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding area, including the iconic bridge that spans the Panama Canal.

The bridge has an arc design, with a width of 1654 meters with an altitude at its highest point of 117 meters above the average sea level. The maximum free height of the main tramway is 61.3 meters at high tide. Built between 1958 and 1962 by the United States, Due to the French construction project of a canal, we can appreciate that the cities of Colon and Panama separated from the rest of the Republic and the Northern Continent,by the Canal of Panama. In 1955, the Remón-Eisenhower contract compromised the United States to build the bridge. Construction began on October 12, 1959, and it was built a few years and was fully completed. The lighting of the bridge was initiated by the BellSouth (tel co) company as it was the legacy of the two years of republican life that Panama celebrated in 2003.

There are 5 sets of canal locks: Pedro Miguel, Agua Clara, Miraflores, Gatún and Cocolí. A system of steps in Miraflores, and another of a step in Pedro Miguel, which rise the level of the Pacific up to Lake Gatún; There is a triple system in Gatún that lowers the level of the Atlantic lake. The lock cameras are 33.53 meters (110 feet) deep and 320 meters (1050 feet) long, with a useful length of 304.8 meters (1000 feet). These dimensions determine the maximum size of the ships that can be used on the channel. The doors have a huge height, with a height of between 14.33 and 24.99 meters (47 to 82 feet), depending on the position, and its 7 feet (2.13 meters); The highest doors are tied of Miraflores, depending on the magnitude of the tides. The Miraflores Locks are the last section of the Panama Canal before reaching the Pacific Ocean. Ships are raised or lowered 16 meters (54 ft) here, depending on whether they are coming from the Pacific or heading towards it.

The Panama Canal is a navigation canal located between the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean. It crosses the narrowest point of the Isthmus of Panama (82 km wide). Considered one of the great engineering feats of the 20C, Colombia, France, and later the United States controlled the territory surrounding the canal during its construction. France began work on the canal in 1881, but stopped in 1889 due to lack of investor confidence because of engineering problems and a high mortality rate among workers. The United States took over the project in 1904 and opened the canal in 1914. The United States continued to control the canal and the surrounding Canal Zone until the Torrijos–Carter Treaties provided for its handover to Panama in 1977. The canal is currently administered by the Panama Canal Authority.

Other things to see here are but which unfortunately I did not have time to see is the Museo del Canal Interoceanico de Panama or Panama Canal Museum, with its detailed exhibits covering every imaginable aspect of the newly controversial canal. And don’t miss the Church San José protecting the Altar de Oro (Golden Altar). It’s the sole relic salvaged from Panama Viejo, the city’s original European settlement, after it was razed by Welsh buccaneer Henry Morgan in 1671.
