This is Navalcarnero !!!

And another dandy road warrior tour of my beloved Spain. This time will remain close to the capital in the area known as the Comunidad de Madrid sort of a regional autonomous administrative area. In this area or community you have several important towns of historical significanse as I have several posts in my blog. This time , I will tell you about a new just fresh from finding more older pictures in my cd rom vault that should be in my blog for you and me, Therefore, here is my take on this is Navalcarnero !! Hope you enjoy it as I.

The City of Navalcarnero is in the Community of Madrid of the kingdom of Spain. It is 35 km from Madrid ,89 km from Segovia, 53 km from Toledo, and 1124 km from my current home, It is accessed from Madrid on the highway of Extremadura (A-5 E-90). Other roads that pass through the city are the M-404 (towards Chinchón), the M-600 (towards El Escorial), the M-507 (towards Cadalso de los Vidrios), and the Radial Highway R-5. Of course, we came here from Madrid on the A5 to exit/Salida 35.

The one we stopped by and just lovely was the Plaza de Segovia, It has been and is the neuralgic center of Navalcarnero, With important buildings from the 16C such as those around Calle Libertad y Calle Real, Calle Constitucion y Calle Jacinto González . Over time this second axis would welcome the Royal Camino de Extremadura. Also, the Council or City Council. In their rooms, municipal government meetings and the elections of their positions were held. Next to this were the jail and a few meters away the house of the butchers and the house of pastry and the Bodegon or food store. In the 18c other relevant buildings were located in the square, although not strictly communal, such as the Hospital of Poor Penatants and the Mesón de las Ánimas.

In the purely architectural sense, it highlights its irregular, spacious and open layout, with beautiful structures ported on three of its four sides. This asymmetry and the formal diversity of its facades give the set of an added and picturesque attraction, which make it a unique example within the Castilian popular architecture. Over the centuries, the Plaza de Navalcarnero has been an exceptional witness of innumerable historical events, some of which have affected their own denomination. It was born with the generic name of Public Square, that perfectly described his original dedication. In a distribution of the barracks of the city of 1832 , it is cited as Plaza Real or royal square, perhaps in line with the times they were running. For this same reason, a few years later, in 1839, it was known as Plaza de la Constitución and from 1935 as Plaza 14 de Abril. Since 1937 this public space is identified as Plaza de Segovia in commemoration of historical linking and dependence that it maintained with Segovia. Findings have shown that the facades of the Plaza de Segovia were since at least the end of the 18C were planted and painted differentiated.  At present this Plaza de Segovia is the true heart of Navalcarnero. In it the most populous arteries of the city converge, around it banks, bars, restaurants, shops, etc . During the first days of September, with the taño of the bells, it dresses in gala to host the patron saint festivities, in honor of Our Lady of the Conception. But it is also the host of fairs such as the craft market or the Book Fair, in addition to serving as decorated for moments such as Christmas or Carnival.

Some of the things to see here with more time are the Church Nuestra Señora de la Asunción or Our Lady of the Assumption and that of the Church of Covadonga, Casa de la Cadena, of which only one facade remains, and the Casa de la Lonja. Under the Plaza de Segovia a system of caves, called Cuevas del Concejo or council caves, has been excavated. Others are the Jardin de Cristal ot glass garden , a sculptural set of Dennis Oppenheim , the monument to Felipe IV and the monument to the Encierros or enclosures.

A bit of history I like tell us that the city of Segovia, since 1480, in which the Catholic Monarchs alienated it all the sexmo of Valdemoro to make mercy of all this to the Marquises of Moya, had been performing all kinds of actions before the crown to recover everything that had been stolen . Meanwhile, the lands of the city, which extended from Brunete to Casarrubios, were being occupied by the vassals of the marquises of Moya and those of the Commander Gonzalo Chacón, lord of Casarrubios, therefore, at the end of 1499, in order to remedy such occupations and to maintain the jurisdiction in the area, it was decided to found a new population, which was going to be called Navalcarnero, exactly in the middle of the land and the populations in conflict. On Wednesday, October 10, 1499, with a simple act, the city, just founded a new town: Navalcarnero, Shortly founded Navalcarnero, about 1521, there is an important contest in defense of the communal fueros, the War of Communities. The call of Segovia goes the new City, Navalcarnero was under the jurisdiction of Segovia from 1499 to 1627. The Society of Jesus entered the City on October 1566, founding its house in the cemetery of the parish, where it continued until their expulsion by king Carlos III in 1767. On October 7, 1649, Navalcarnero witnessed the most important event of its history: the marriage of King Felipe IV with his niece the archduchess Mariana of Austria. In the War of Succession, the city took part providing the troops of Felipe V by order of the Council of Castile. It, also, had an outstanding role in the War of Independence, in which Mayor Antonio Celedonio Lorente sent news to Talavera, Trujillo, Badajoz and Sevilla on May 2, 1808, of the uprising against the French in Madrid, so that these localities were also rebelled. The result was that Extremadura was armed in a few days to fight French troops.
