We were back to my dear Spain again !! love it !! We came by car of course and took time to see some new towns with my sons and our dog Rex ! I rented a small house in a off the beaten path country town that was just perfect ! I like to continue the saga of our new road warrior experiences even if now with less in our family,This post is on my latest road warrior tour of wonderful sublime Spain. Therefore, let me tell you about the Church Santo Domingo de Silos of Arévalo !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.
The town of Arévalo is in the province of Avila, in the Autonomous Community of Castilla y Léon , in the kingdom of Spain, Only 73 km from our rental house in Velliza and 126 km from Madrid, We were going to Madrid with book reservations and had extra time in the morning so I took my road warrior mode on and came in off the A6 highway to see this wonderful town passed many times and finally in, This is a new town and find in my world map, Spain is huge of beautiful towns, working on it still…
The Parish Church of Santo Domingo de Silos built extramuros and located in the one currently known as Plaza del Arrabal. It venerates the remains of San Vitorino, patron of Arévalo, as well as the new image of the Virgen de las Angustias, patron saint of the city, has several works of art of very good invoice highlighting its image of San Francisco de Asís and the impressive wrough iron work. Regarding daily worship, it is the main church of Arévalo. The church has a slender Mudejar apse. Access to the temple, with three naves, is gained through a triple arch façade and coronation balls in Escorial style. It was built in Mudejar style but was widely transformed in the Renaissance and Baroque times. It has a Mudejar apse, a plateresque fence and baroque vaults.

The main facade of the Church Santo Domingo de Silos on the Plaza del Arrabal built in 1572 has three arcades of pillow granite grain , finishing with a cross-velet with three Arab-style metal balls of the city’s old mosque with two entrances to its interior, cushioned arches and coats of arms of Santo Domingo de Silos. On the side of the epistle, the tower built on pre -existing body is risen, topped with a small dome on octagonal drum, crowned with the statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In the 15C, its only nave was enlarged into three different ones, separated by granite former arches and a Gothic-style arch decorated with rosettes. The sacristy dates from this moment and is accessed by an ogee arch with vegetal decoration. In the left nave two chapels were opened in 1563. In one of them, in a baroque altarpiece, is the image of the Virgen de las Angustias, patron saint of Arévalo, whose festivity is celebrated on 9 February. It is an image of dressing from the 16C with Christ lying. In the chapel of St. Anthony, a tombstone of slate with a Gothic inscription. It is a figure of a woman with hands and an alabaster head. In the presbytery the plateresque grille stands out, and behind it the Baroque altarpiece with a silver urn containing the relics of the patron saint of Arévalo, San Victorino Mártir. Outstanding images are a St. Francis of Assisi in ecstasy, dated between 1625-30, a magnificent Christ without polychrome, from the 16C, and the image of St. Victorino Mártir, patron saint of the City. On the side of the epistle we find a tower of baroque style. At its base you can admire a set of mural paintings from the first quarter of the 16C attributed to a disciple of Juan de Borgoña.
