This is La Seca !!!

We were back to my dear Spain again !! love it !! We came by car of course and took time to see new areas and old repeat with some of them as introduction to my sons and our dog Rex ! I rented a small house in a off the beaten path country town that was just perfect ! I like to continue the saga of our new road warrior experiences even if now with less in our family, This post is on my latest road warrior tour of wonderful sublime Spain. These towns were a surprise as we had extra time with nothing planned so we took into the wonderland and wines of the road CL 610 ! Therefore, let me tell you about this is La Seca !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The town of La Seca is located in the province of Valladolid, in the Autonomous Community of Castilla y León of the kingdom of Spain. The town rises on the left margin of the Duero River, about 40 km from Valladolid, 27 km from our town of Velliza, ,and 170 km from Madrid, The town is located upstream and is crossed by the CL-610 regional road, which is directed towards La Seca, This regional road connects with the A6 highway at exit/salida 160 to Madrid.

La Seca term “dry” is derived from the pre-Roman root sik-, sek- which means a source or river. Its name is because it was the place where the dry of the talled trees was performed. Not by chance the shield of the town is a pine and an ax. The economy of the town is based on the production of wine, thanks to its numerous wineries , Most of its municipal term is cultivated with vineyards belonging to the Denomination of Origin of Rueda.

The Church de Nuestra Señora de la Asuncion or Our Lady of the Assumption is of the 16C in Renaissance style built in 1688, the absence of its third body can be observed due to the demolition it suffered in 1962 falling on the main altar and completely destroying the main altarpiece of the 19C (see below) Already inside, content allow enjoying jewels of imagery, painting , Sillería or goldsmith. Tour of the low choir and high choir, passing through each of the chapels, highlighting Our Lady of Peace (16C) and San Basilio. Both, Patrons of La Seca. The work of St. John the Baptist baptizing Christ, the work of Luis Gil Ranz (Disciple of Goya), access to the craftsmanship of the Virgen de la Pera and the crucified Christ, both works by Alejo de Vahía, 1500, and end by the corner of liturgical goldsmithing. The organ of dry reflects the stylistic and sound splendor of the Baroque organ in Castilla y León. Located in the high choir of the Church of Ntra. Mrs. de la Asunción (mid -16C), it is considered one of the baroque organs, not cathedral, larger and complete in the region. Built in 1790 1792.

Other things to see here, me think are the municipal underground winery of the 18C, offers the visitor a unique historical story of the maximum splendor era in the cultivation of the vine. Mural Tribute to the local Tallist Juan Macías Revuelta in this mural, a part of the first body of his work is observed in detail, an altarpiece that currently occupies the main altar of the Church Ntra.Sra de la Asunción, The Hermitage San Roque located in the Serrada-Valladolid road CL610 direction, with a single nave covered with wooden armor. In 1970 two sculptures of the 18C were identified as San Roque and Obispo San Luis It is currently not used for worship. The Hermitage del Niño Jesús is located in the urban area, on the road Pozaldez and Rodilana direction. From the 20C, it has a square plant with brick and tapial walls and wood and tile roof, it has at the feet a simple half -point cover with two bells. Currently not intendedforworship, The Hermitage of the Holy Christ of the Humilladero ,Baroque style of the 17C. Current cemetery built between 1804 and 1811 and is located to the Tordesillas road, also called Camino del Puerto. The project “La Seca in the War of the Communities” is born before the discovery of a manuscript signed by four community captains -Juan de Zapata, Juan de Padilla, Luis de Quintanilla and Juan Bravo from the sacristy of the primitive Church of La Seca , on September 3, 1520. There is currently a copy of that manuschrist, along with its informative transcription, in the current sacristy of the Church Nstra Sra de la Asuncion. The Casa Consistorial or City Hall nestled in the Plaza España ,the work of Ventura Rodríguez and dates from the last third of the 18C. Specifically, its construction began in 1784 and did not conclude until 1795. Among others, without forgetting the permanent exposure of paintings located at the upper floor. Azial stone staircase, of the original construction, which hosts multiple canvases of viticultural theme rewarded in the renowned “Sarmiento Painting Award” that every year the City Hall organizes nationwide in the framework of the Verdejo (grape) partyAlso, wonderful wineries of Bodega Campo Eliseo and Bodega Cuatro Rayas.

One we did stop and was convenient on the road CL 610 near the A6 to Madrid was Bodegas Protos, A bit down as tastings was not provided but I know the wine so got me some bottles for personal consumption in moderation of course lol ! The Bodegas Protos winery is located in the Cl 610 km 32.5 La Seca. Traditional Castilian -style facilities have stainless steel, bottling steel deposits, barrel defermentation zone, and technological endowment, which allows you to widely overcome the most demanding requirements of the current regulations. The totality of the production of Protos is D.O. Rueda and of course 100% Verdejo, guaranteeing the exceptional quality of its wines, in which tradition and avant -garde are mixed. The Protos whites are called to become a benchmark of the D.O. Rueda, as it has been happening with its renowned Ribera del Duero. Of course, drink Verdejo and you won’t get old is a local saying I have adopted ,,,,,,,,, !!!!
