The Church San Andrés of Olmedo !!!

We were back to my dear Spain again !! love it !! We came by car of course and took time to see new areas and old repeat with some of them as introduction to my sons and our dog Rex ! I rented a small house in a off the beaten path country town that was just perfect ! I like to continue the saga of our new road warrior experiences even if now with less in our family, This post is on my latest road warrior tour of wonderful sublime Spain.  Therefore, let me tell you about the Church San Andrés of Olmedo !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The town of Olmedo is in the province of Valladolid in the autonomous community of Castilla Y-León in the kingdom of Spain, The city is a Mudejare architectural home. It is 60 km from my home base of Velliza, on the A6 and CL 602 roads, and 42 km from Valladolid ,and 147 km from Madrid, We were in town and parked by parking Plaza Mayor, superbe.

The Church San Andrés (St Andrews) is located at the Plaza San Andrés, 6 , Done in the 13C of Romanesque style. The Church is one nave with a cover to the feet topped by a semicircular head that on the outside forms a beautiful apse that follows the constructive and decorative traces of the Mudejar Castilian, in its basement it uses the masonry stone on which a brick creates a brick triple archery and a delicate entablature. The gospel wall opens a cover in 1559, thanks to a half -point arch to which a niche to auctioned in a triangular pediment is superimposed. In the 14C, a chapel under the invocation of San Sebastián, the patronage of this chapel was carried out , and in it the nobles of the so -called “lineage of outside” met (the other lineage “those inside “They had their meetings in the Chapel of Santa Catalina in the missing Church of San Pedro). Inside the chapel there is a beautiful grave made in the 14C marked from a clear Muslim mood. The grave embedded in the wall has a rich Arabesco decoration on both the front and in the alfiz that frames the horseshoe arch. The two bodies tower, amended in the 17C, uses brick and concrete as construction materials. The Church was covered in the 18C by a barrel vault decorated with plastering to taste of the time.

Inside the Church San Andrés ,there was one of the best exponents creating a magnificent altarpiece for the convent of the Mejorana, which after the vicissitudes of the confiscation period passes in October 1840 to this church , but this would not be its final location since the sinking of the roof of San Andrés caused it to be transferred again in 1932 to its current place in the National Museum of Sculpture of Valladolid. Also in this museum are today the graves of Don Diego and Don Luis de Soto remaining only one of the pages that adorned these graves.
