We came by car of course and took time to see new areas and old repeat with some of them as introduction to my sons and our dog Rex ! I rented a small house in a off the beaten path country town that was just perfect ! The City of Salamanca is capital of the province of Salamanca located in the Autonomous Community of Castilla y León, and in the kingdom of Spain. In 1988, the Old City was declared a World Heritage for UNESCO, The City is located 109 km from Ávila, 121 km from Valladolid, 123 km from Portugal and 214 km from Madrid.

The Church of San Julián and Santa Basilisa is a church of Romanesque origin amended in the 17-18C, it was built in 1107, near the Plaza Mayor and the Parish of San Martín, next to the Plaza del Mercado, Originally founded in the 12Cy in one of the outside neighborhoods, the Church was integrated into the walled enclosure in the mid -12C, when a new wall that covered the area of ​​the Toresans was built.

Inside the Church of San Juliàn y Santa Basilisa,there is a magnificent altarpiece of the 16C that houses a representation of the Virgen de los Remedios, accompanied by figures of San Julián and Santa Basilisa, as well as other images of San José and San Joaquín. They also highlight in the altarpiece the reliefs of the assumption of the Virgin and Jesus in the temple surrounded by doctors. The Church adorns a picture of the Immaculate, painted in 1622, a work that highlights the devotional atmosphere of the place. Next to the main altar, is the sepulcher of Francisco de Ramos de Manzano, who was a preceptor of Carlos II in 1671, a detail that adds to the place a special historical weight , The Church of San Julián and Santa Basilisa houses one of the most special parts of the Romanesque churches. Inside we find a dressing room of the year 1615 after the main altarpiece, which would be accessed through a ladder. Due to its importance and the taste of the religious it is modified by creating the official dressing , Pictorial sculptural of other saints that are accessed through a ladder The decorative images of the side walls of the dressing room will be composed of images, of a sculptural nature, such as plant and animal figures. Some others such as little angels and filacteria that explain the history that is represented. Together with these filacteria, some human representations of characters close to the Virgin Mary and Jesus, scenes prior to Christ or some of the important kings of Israel. In turn, some other iconographic themes characteristic of Romanesque such as Daniel in the lions pit, adoration of the shepherds or the announcement of the Virgin.
