The Plaza Mayor of Colmenar de Oreja !!!

This was another dandy road warrior tour of my beloved Comunidad de Madrid region. This time take you again to Colmenar de Oreja. I am glad found me a picture in my cd rom vault that should be in my blog for you and me, Therefore, here is my take on the Plaza Mayor of Colmenar de Oreja !!! Hope you enjoy it as I.

The town is only about 50 km from Madrid and you can only come here by car ,no train station. You come by the expressway A3 Madrid-Valencia and take the entry into the road M-404 by km 50 at Villarejo de Salvanés (see  post) until Belmonte de Tajo and here take the M-303 to Colmenar de Oreja.  There is another way from the A3 take the M307 at Km 21 before reaching Arganda del Rey, and by it follow continuously the M311 and before reaching Morata de Tajuña take the M313 to Colmenar de Oreja.

The town of Colmenar de Oreja possesses a largenumber of buildings and public monuments, in addition to large farmhouses from the 17C to 19C, as well as unique caves and cellars, Its Plaza Mayor is a magnificent example of Spanish porticoed squares of the 17-18C. It is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful town squares in the Community of Madrid region. It is enclosed by two-stories buildings that rest on stone columns and have wooden balconies. Some of them have been converted into restaurants, The Plaza Mayor is built on a system of bridges and arches over the stream of Zacatín. The construction of the Arco del Puente de Zacatín or arch helped to bridge the gap created by the precipice, thus connecting the old town to the outskirts.

The Plaza Mayor dating from 1676 and finished in 1794 is a wonderful example of Castilian squares , and on it you find the Casa Consistorial ( served as city hall)  and Posito (old food depot). Its south cloth gives to a majestic architectonic ensemble formed by the Gardens of Zacatín, the mouth of the tunnel of Stone of the same name (which crosses under the square of part to part), and, the troughs. It has been the framework of a multitude of films and television series. In the popular festivities both in May and September, a portable wooden square with tenders is installed, so that they can celebrate all kinds of bullfighting events (see post), something that the people continue with great devotion and tradition.

Afterward, went to the university in Florida, ERAU, and upon graduation decided to moved there to Ormond by the Sea, near Daytona Beach, finally moving North Miami, then Hialeah, then another moved to Silver Lakes division in Miramar, Broward county, Florida; in Florida I lived a total of 18 years. Finally , moved to France in 2003 ,Versailles call me for its royalty, and working in Paris was great. It was time to seek frontiers again and moved to Brech near Auray, Morbihan in Brittany , and later move to not too far Pluvigner. Total so far in France has been 20 years, and counting.
