The Mercado de La Paz of Madrid !!!

I like to tell you about an off the beaten path market of my dear Madrid, the Mercado de La Paz., This is the real thing with on site and take out and even online ordering for the conveniences of modern life! All in one lovely spot even if off the tourist trail worth the detour, me think. Therefore, let me tell you about  the Mercado de La Paz of Madrid !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The Mercado de La Paz is located in the Salamanca neighborhood of Madrid, it has three entrances, one on Calle de Ayala main entrance, another on Calle de Lagasca and the last one on Calle de Claudio Coello with a staircase of 17 steps. This municipal market was built on an elevated plot with a rectangular floor plan. On October 4, 1879, the Mecardo de La Paz was inaugurated. It had 120 stalls, almost all rented before the market opened, distributed in 4 central blocks and 4 side blocks, with a large space for the circulation of customers. One of its peculiarities is that it was built with iron material.

It was on July 8, 1943 when, through an administrative procedure for granting public works on private initiative, the Madrid City Council granted the Loza Alonso family the management and operation of the Mercado de La Paz, commemorating with its new name the recently established period of peace and prosperity in Spain. As a noteworthy fact of this period, it is worth highlighting that the Mercado de La Paz was born without stalls or commercial premises in the entrance alleys through the streets of Ayala, Lagasca and Claudio Coello, and that it would not be until 1949/1950 when the City Council authorized the installation of shops in these spaces. The current concessionaire of the Mercado de La Paz is a Merchants Association. The space is divided into two side galleries. It was completely remodeled in 1943 and later in the 1980s. Finally, it should be noted that the market is the only one in the world that sells and markets its products (fresh and dry goods) through Amazon’s Prime Now app, a fact that has earned it various awards and national and international recognition.
