This is Bogotà , Colombia !!!

Ok so feeling nostalgic again and so sorry could not find any more pictures! These were the times I traveled from Florida USA to the Americas, and pictures are very few if any as in those times I was into post cards collection (4K+ 76 countries). Once I stop the collection, pictures took over on popular travel forums and then explosion over to my blog.  Just for memories’s sake on Bogotà, Colombia , bringing back these memorable moments of my early travels in our world. Therefore, here is my take on this is Bogotà, Colombia !!! Hope you enjoy it as I

The City of Bogotá, or Bogotá Capital District, formerly Santa Fe de Bogotá Capital District (as I knew it), is the capital of Colombia, as well as the capital of the department of Cundinamarca. It was founded on August 6, 1538, by the Spanish conquistador Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada. Organized as a unitary and decentralized capital district, Bogotá enjoys autonomy allowing it to manage its interests within the limits imposed by the Constitution and the law. Composed of 20 districts, it is the undisputed metropolis of the country from an administrative, economic, and political point of view. Bogotá is the largest city and where people from all over the country converge, so it is a diverse and multicultural city, at the crossroads of old and new. It is located at high altitude. La Candelaria, its cobblestone center, features colonial-era landmarks like the neoclassical Teatro Colón performance hall and the 17C Church of San Francisco. Popular museums are also located here, such as the Botero Museum, displaying the art of Fernando Botero, and the Gold Museum, displaying pre-Columbian gold coins.. Memories forever of my trips here in the 1990’s.

Plaza Bolivar square in its center a statue of Simón Bolivar. Located in the historic center, La Candelaria, it hosts the Primada Cathedral, the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament and the Archdiocese , the City/Town Hall (Palace Liévano) built by the French architect Gaston Lelarge , the Courthouse and the National Capitol. The Catedral Basílica Metropolitana de la Inmaculada Concepción was built between 1807 and 1823 on the very spot where three of the city’s former cathedrals were successively erected and demolished. I walked by as my business dealings of the time did not allow time to see it inside, It will be another time, there is always next time,

  1. If you have the chance to return to Bogotà, I would encourage you to do so. I went there a couple of times from Toronto a few years ago. It is a city with a strong colonial past that is embracing modernity as if to make up for lost time. It is an interesting blend to observe.
