I am in back to you with my dear Spain , I have followed the race for many years and several posts ,but the new version is on as I write ! The Vuelta de España bike race !! Going on as I write this post! I really enjoyed it and many family memories of seeing it and eventually witnessed in person, This will be in my black and white series,no pictures, Therefore, let me tell you a bit about the Vuelta de España 2025 ,part II !!! Hope you enjoy it as I,
The 80th edition of La Vuelta will begin for the first time in Italy, in Turin, in the heart of Piedmont. The peloton will arrive the following day at the summit of Limone Piemonte, before crossing the Alps for a stopover in France, in Voiron (Isère), via the rolling passes of Montgenèvre and Lautaret. The arrival in Spain on day 5 will mark the beginning of a demanding first triptych. A 20 km team time trial around Figueras will open the race, followed by two summit finishes: in Pal, Andorra, and then in Cerler. Aside from a sprinter’s stage in Zaragoza (stage 8), the peloton will have few opportunities to catch its breath.
From August 23 to September 14, 2025, La Vuelta 2025 will consist of 21 stages and cover a total distance of 3,151 km. 4 flat stages (including one with a high-altitude finish), 6 medium-altitude stages, 5 mountain stages, 1 individual time trial, 3 hilly stages with high-altitude finishes, and 2 rest days. It will have 24 teams with only my favorites as ARKEA-B&B HOTELS (FRA) COFIDIS (FRA) DECATHLON AG2R LA MONDIALE TEAM (FRA) EF EDUCATION – EASYPOST (USA) GROUPAMA-FDJ (FRA) LIDL-TREK (USA) MOVISTAR TEAM (ESP) UAE TEAM EMIRATES XRG (UAE) LOTTO DSTNY (BEL) ,ISRAEL PREMIER TECH (ISR), BURGOS-BURPELLET-BH (ESP) and CAJA RURAL-SEGUROS RGA (ESP).
The top Ten ranking after 4 stages are:
1,David Gaudu (Groupama-FDJ) 15h45’50”
2. Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a bike), 0”
3. Giulio Ciccone (Lidl-Trek), 8”
4. Egan Bernal (Ineos Grenadiers),14”
5. Thomas Pidcock (Q36.5), 16”
6. Jai Hindley (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe), 16”
7. Santiago Buitrago (Bahrain Victorious),16”
8. Matteo Jorgenson (Visma-Lease a bike),16”
9. Sepp Kuss (Visma-Lease a bike),16”
10. Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates),16”
My best stages for the Vuelta 2025 are :
Stage 7 ,Mountain on Fri. 29/08/2025 Andorra la Vella. Andorra > Cerler. Huesca La Magia 188 km with Coll de l’Espina at 1,404 meters, The Vuelta makes its definitive return to Spain with a day totaling 4,400 meters of elevation gain. The successive climbs will wear down the body before the final showdown in the difficult climb to the Cerler resort (12 km at 6.5%). Irregular, with two short descents, it features numerous sections above 9%, particularly in its initial section, before a more rolling finale. This terrain is ripe for attacks and the appearance of the first big gaps between the favorites.
Stage 19 , Flat Fri. 12/09/2025 (my favorite of all because its my bday ! ) Rueda > Medina del Campo, Salamanca to Guijuelo 161.9 km, The sprinters should find their smiles again on this penultimate day, with their penultimate chance to raise their arms. However, nothing is guaranteed for the strong riders: their tired teammates will struggle to control a breakaway likely composed of strong riders. The scenario therefore promises to be uncertain on the long straights of the Meseta plateau, before a finish on a false flat uphill in the streets of Guijuelo.
Stage 20 ;Mountain Sat. 13/09/2025 ,Robledo de Chavela > Bola del Mundo. San Lorenzo del Escorial, Guadarrama, Real Sitio de Ildefonso, Puerto de Navacerrada 1854 meters, Cercedilla 1154 meters Guadarrama and Puerto de Navacerrada, 165.6 km , We’ve been waiting for it since 2012! The Bola del Mundo (12.5 km at 8.5%, including the last 3.2 km at 12.5%) will be the deciding factor in this Vuelta. The stragglers in the general classification will have to go all out by joining the breakaway on the difficult passes of the Sierra de Guadarrama. But the final decision will be made on the final climb, where no one is safe from a crash on gradients that can reach 20%.
Stage 21 and final, Plat, Sun. 14/09/2025, Alalpardo San Sebastian de los Reyes, Alcobendas, El Pardo, Aravaca and Madrid 3 laps 111.6 km A final day of parades for the survivors of the 3,151 km, with nine loops to complete on the traditional final circuit in the heart of Madrid. Passing through the capital’s emblematic monuments, it is punctuated by three U-turns over its six km. The final showdown is expected to be won by a renowned sprinter at the foot of the spectacular Palacio de Cibeles (Cybele) , the scene of the coronation of the winners of this 80th edition of the Vuelta.
