I was looking over my older posts since started my blog I notice very little reference to my early life visiting Mexico City (CDMEX). This is a pity , as is a country where i have visited several times over the years and have family there which I have visited too. Therefore, this is a bit of a wrap up of my early times there as my nostalgia is consuming me. Of course, in those early times in the Americas, very little effort for pictures , therefore, this post will be in my black and white series, no pictures, Let me tell you a bit on my old story on Mexico City !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.
I would come from Miami international airport (MIA) to Benito Juarez international airport in Mexico city , This flight was short and nice on business class for many years say from 1994 to 2003 (then from France to last 2018), Early on would come every month for several years of glory and many friends still in touch with several.
For most of my stays there and already can call it my hangout of many years in Zona Rosa, the
BW then simply Hotel Royal Reforma, Calle Amberes 78; a great place to stay with wonderful foodie, and a plethora of choices outside all around you from stores, bars, restos, clubs etc. Very central between paseo de la Reforma and ave Chapultepec. The official Hotel Royal Reforma : https://hotelroyalreforma.com/
I have, also, stayed at the Segovia Regency Hotel ,avenida Chapultepec 328 . Actually, the anecdote here is that came with my boss who for some reason did not like the Royal Hotel and since he was paying, told him the hotel across the street , and he liked this one lol! This hotel at the time (need to check if still do) closed the front doors for security between midnight and 6h or 6am. So we needed clearance each time to get back in lol! The main reason of this post is that speaking with an old friend from there came up with remembering the address of the office which he knew, and I decided to give due and do this post, The office back then was at Avenida Progreso corner with Calle Union, Colonia Escandon for a computer parts distribution company (now a Six store there), Many good friends like I said still in touch with several and have met them again on my trips from France, The company has been long gone it close out shortly after I left them for lack of business, It was called Key Micro , The address is within walking distance of the Bosque de Chapultepec forest and its many attractions and very close to the nice Parque Morelos,
I have mentioned of the many times here but it all started back then to go to Angus Butcher House, Calle Copenhage 31 ,this branch is closed but will always be in my fond memories, They do have other branches in the city. Steaks are big, beers are cold, and the ladies are all beautiful Memories forever !!! Their current site on Angus: https://www.angus.com.mx/
Another wonderful dining experience back then and were our customers !!! was Sanborns,a chain very popular in Mexico,, Of course, we stop there many times to eat and also to buy essentials electronics. Always had a wonderful time eating We went most to the one by paseo de Reforma, 222, Go left side angle categorias to find about all they do, The official Sanborns: https://www.sanborns.com.mx/c/restaurante/
There was a wonderful Tezka basque restaurant that you can communicate from the Royal Hotel above,no longer there. From 1994 it grew to when I first met them in 2002 and then 2013 it was rank 75 of the 100 best restaurants of the event World’s 50 Best Restaurants.
Some of the memorable spots that were my hanging out areas were the fuente de la Diana Cazadora (eng. Huntress Diana Fountain), a monument located in the roundabout at Paseo de la Reforma and Calle Río Misisipí and Calle Sevilla, on the border of the neighborhoods of Colonia Cuauhtémoc and Colonia Juàrez, and was begun in 1938.
Also, the Angel de la Independencia or the Independance Angel is a column located on a roundabout in the end of the Paseo de la Reforma. The column has 36 meters high, and the statue, which weighs 7 tons, and about 7 meters, for a total of 43 meters. Made with gold leaves. El Ángel was built in 1910 to celebrate the centenary of the independence of Mexico (September 16 1810 Grito de Dolores) . In 1925, a mausoleum was made at its base containing the remains of the heroes of the Independence of Mexico. The statue of the Winged Victory located at its summit is inspired and is a quasi-conforming copy of the statue of the Genius of Liberty located on the column of July, Place de la Bastille in Paris, France.
As my hotels were around it I became very knowledgable of this area, the Zona Rosa or rose zone neighborhood, It is bordered by Avenue Chapultepec in the south, and to the north the famous Paseo de la Reforma. The Zona Rosa is also known for its nightlife, which makes this space one of the most visited in Mexico City, Many nice memories indeed here and if back will surely visit it again,
