I am back at you with my Americas !!! Again, surprise ! Found me some older paper pictures not in my blog yet and they should be,even if the quality is not tops, it is here for the memories of always. This is on my businees travels that took to job with Microsoft in Redmond next to Seattle, memories forever, I decided to update this post with new text and links on my experiences there as it is dear to me. Therefore, here is my take on this is Redmond/Seatlle !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I
The City of Seattle is located between Puget Sound and Lake Washington, it is the seat of King county in Washington State, USA. The city was founded in the middle of the 19C and baptized in homage to the Amerindian chief Seattle. Its nickname, the emerald city, comes from the green color of the forests that surround it. It is also called the city of rain , the door of Alaska, Queen City, or even Jet City, The city is 233 km from Portland, 1,094 km from San Francisco and 2,790 km from Chicago. It is, also, about 155 km from the border between Canada and the United States.
The city has Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (aka SEA-TAC ), located in the south suburbs in the city of Seatac, and managed by the Port of Seattle, And this is from where I came in and out nice and easy, We had a Hertz rental minivan that was good for the road even going to the Napa wine area, sadly no pictures of those days,
Some of the things to see here are the observation platform of the famous Space Needle ,really spectacular if you like heights. Built for the 1962 Universal Exhibition, this 185.5 meter high tower has become the symbol of the city. Residents and tourists flock to Pike Place Market, this producer market located by the water is the oldest still active in the United States. Seattle’s fame is not limited to its wine or craft beer: the city is also known to be the cradle of the very first Starbucks coffee
My take here was to go to the Bell Street Pier Cruise Terminal anchors an 11-acre complex along Seattle’s downtown waterfront. Pier 66 is home to Norwegian Cruise Line and Oceania Cruises, (did not took any ,,,) which offer weekly sailings to Alaska during cruise season. Pier 66 is an easy walk to the famous Pike Place Market, Seattle Aquarium and the Great Wheel, and a 30-40 minute direct ride to the airport. I was there on a conference meeting at the Bell Harbor International Conference Center…

The City of Redmond is also in King County, Washington State, USA. The city is located in the suburbs of Seattle, and is home to the largest employer by far ,Microsoft, as well as Nintendo of America, Amazon ,Kuiper, Meta, Astronics, and Stryker. Redmond Town Center, a large City center/downtown, open-air retail center, offers numerous shops, restaurants, movie theaters, special events, and live performances by a repertory theater company and other arts-related groups.
My take here is that on Friday April 4 1997 I was ask to interview for a management job leading of Latin America base in Redmond with Microsoft, The idea was great af first but once there did not like the working condition that I saw nor the rain and as my dear wife Martine would tell it we will even farther from our belle France, Even if leading the candidate as told by the recruiter of Microsoft herself upon returning I send a letter to discontinue my consideration for the position on May 14, 1997,Of course, my friends would never believe I did this but time would tell it was a great family decision, For the memories of always I interview with Kelsey Berg, recruiter, also, HR assistants Lisa and Marjorie, John MacLellan, ICON controller, David Kaminski, Worldwide Credit Director, Fabian Diaz Latin American Regional Controller, William Kern, Operations Manager, and Hahns Burg ,Director Latin American Operations, I had the opportunity to chat with David Ballmer, President CEO 2nd to Bill Gate at the time, It was a memorable trip with lasting memories and keep all records of it, still.
While there they put free at the Courtyard by Marriott hotel which I believe is now the Seattle Marriott Redmond Hotel as it looks similar to my recollections, A short distance from the hotel on Leary Way to the SR520 to NE 40th Street to the 156th Ave NE Microsoft main entrance,
A bit of history tell us that Native Americans inhabited the Redmond area 3,000 years ago. The first white settler arrived in the 1870s. Luke McRedmond acquired land next to the Sammamish River on September 9, 1870, and the following year, Warren Perrigo took land adjacent to his. Other residents arrived, and with the establishment of the first post office in 1881, the community’s name became Melrose. Melrose House, which did not please McRedmond: after his accession to the post office, he successfully changed the name of the town to Redmond in 1883. The completion of the Evergreen Point Floating Bridge over Lake Washington in 1963 allowed the town to become a suburb of Seattle.
