These came to me on old postcards and decided to do a post in my blog on them, Things have indeed change a lot my last stop by there was on 2009! Of course, this post will be in my black and white series, no pictures, Therefore, here is my take on my hotels of Miami Beach !!! Hope you enjoy it as I.
The Ritz Plaza (closed) 1701 Collins Ave, Miami Beach. The 12 floor/62 meter hotel was the tallest building in the city for 30 years It is located in the Miami Beach Architectural District The Grossinger family expanded from their Catskill resort into Miami Beach in 1939. The Art Deco tower was designed by architect L. Murray Dixon and opened as the Grossinger Beach Hotel. It was the first air-conditioned hotel on Miami Beach. The hotel was used by the U.S. Army during WWII to accommodate high-ranking officers. The property re-opened in 1946 as the Ritz Plaza. In 1989, the hotel was purchased by Ignacio Contreras and Manuel Llerandi and restored to its Art Deco roots, reopening in February 1990. (when I stayed), In 2004 immediately closed for a planned reconstruction as a luxury boutique hotel, but numerous plans stalled and the building remained closed through 2010. In May 2012, it opened as the SLS Hotel South Beach.

Delano Hotel (closed since March 2020) 17th Street entrance, 1685 Collins Ave, reopened as Hotel Delano South Beach 5 stars 194 rooms. It was built in 1947 . The hotel was originally utilized for military housing. The then four-winged art deco tower of the Delano was the tallest building in Miami Beach. The 1994 renovations were designed by Philippe Starck. The hotel was named after US President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Today, it embraces two distinct concepts: the classic Delano and the freshly minted Maison Delano, debuting its inaugural Parisian location this April 2 024. At the Delano Miami, you can go to the movies, play volleyball, swim, sleep, have treatments at the Agua spa, and eat everything from sushi to lobster ravioli. And every space within the hotel is its sphere. The Blue Door restaurant, which Madonna co-owned,was a hotspot. She celebrated her 37th birthday there with a party attended by Donatella Versace.
